DORKING FC - MANAGEMENT CHANGES.

Press Release, issued Sunday 29th. November 2009.

"TONY WEBB STEPS DOWN AS FIRST TEAM MANAGER OF DORKING FC.

Tony made his decision known to the club last Friday and the club has voiced its gratitude to Tony for all his hard work and immense effort during his time in charge.

During his stewardship, Tony proved a real anchor for the club during the hard days when the very existence of the club was under threat due to the local council's failed attempt to overturn the club"s right to a long term renewal of its lease. Although relegation was suffered that season, Webb oversaw a successful season the following year which saw Dorking gain promotion back to the CCL Premier Division last season.

Tony will be staying with the club as Director of Football. Tony will now concentrate on club & community development items this season but will step away from the daily rigours of first team management. Managing a side at this level of non league football is a seven days a week role and takes a lot of time and effort and, with a demanding career, Webb felt he would have to prioritise his efforts for the club, feeling he didn't have the time to devote to the second half of the season where the mission in Dorking’s first year back in the CCL Premier is to stay up and consolidate Chicks’ position at step 5 of the non league pyramid.

First Team affairs have been hand over seamlessly to Dave Argent who has become first team manager with effect from the end of the Molesey game. Argent has been one of Tony Webb’s assistants this season and has worked with Tony in the past. Dave Argent has been involved in the non league scene for a number of year. The appointment provides Dorking and the players with continuity.

Tony Webb’s last game in charge of first team affairs was in Saturday’s game at Molesey, where Webb unexpectedly had to turn out for the side as goalkeeper in the absence of first team keeper and captain Dan Coote due to work commitments, Webb turning back the clock with a fine performance that reminded many observers of Webb’s playing career as a top non league keeper for the likes of Tooting and Mitcham.

Peter Augustine will stay as Director of Coaching and his role in supporting the club's teams at all levels & in particular developing the youth setup, links with Brockham Badgers, future academy sides and potential links with a major club to expand our soccer schools (in conjunction with Tony) is unchanged."

well done to Tony for his work over the last few seasons, particularly on keeping the squad and club believing promotion was possible last season and achieving it.

He took on an almost impossible job , and had to cope with a lot of history.

Thanks for what youve done Tony, and thanks for the generous way you treated me at the club, especially after everything I said about the club a year or two back.

Hope the new role and changes will suit you well, good luck.
