Just wanted to raise a few points/suggestions about our website, but before i do i just want to say that in no means am i having a go at anyone or mocking the work that the people who put the website together do but i feel i must raise a few points which I feel could maybe make it more user friendly for our fans in particular.

I believe that on the left hand side, there are too many boxes which are sterile at the moment, with no features, also, sorry to point this out but the colouring i feel is too colourful,i did find it good when it was first done but i think it confuses some people by being too bright at times.

I don't think the player profiles on the right hand side and the links to other clubs need to be on the homepage, there should be links to both of these so it frees up space on the homepage for more important details

i have been looking at other clubs websites in our league and we have a better website than many but some are easier to read than ours is as it has had the same format for a couple of years now and others have changed.

I was undecided whether to post this as i don't want to be seen to be mocking someones hard work, which i am not and sid has done wonders with his work on the website but i just wonder whether its time for a slight revamp.

Also, when i go to the homepage only half the page is taken up,so it looks very cramped.

Just wondered what other peoples thoughts on this are???

I have had similar thoughts Rob and your post is very constructive. To be honest I agree with all your points. When the site was originally designed three seasons ago I was working under orders (bright colours, lots of info etc.) but now, of course, this is not the case. Let's see what we can do to re-vamp the home page for starters. I will try to tone down the colours a bit. Personally I like the top part but could change everything below 'Purds' goal. Do we want the vidiprinter link at the top or should it be moved down the page? Do you want the news items to start nearer the top of the page and push the 'Join the Supporters Association' banner down the page? We could get rid of some of the 'sponsors' logos as some of them are no longer sponsors. I like the links to other clubs as it is useful if you want travel info or to read their match reports but if you want them moved its no problem.

Please remember that my web design skills (such that they are) are self-taught and mostly acquired through hours of trial and error so any grand schemes may be beyond my capabilities!

I will NOT take constructive criticism personally but please try to keep ideas 'simple'.

Cheers

John

Nice one sidders,i like the league table where it is(could the links to other clubs go through this???)

I like the vidi printer

The player profile as important the players are,i feel should go through a link on the left

I did think that some of the sponsors on there probably aren't paying us anymore so they are getting free advertising, shouldn't really happen but i can understand why they are still there at the moment

I trhink the bright colours represent the previous ownership, maybe red and white as its our club colours are all it needs

I think if we left it open for fans to comment and also speak to the people running the club for their ideas we could make it more friendly and seem less squashed with info

agree with rob about the colours being brighter than bright. maybe if it was stripped down to the bare bones as a front page, red white and black themed. maybe not even boxes? the player profiles could then have their own page. the next fixture and the current league table is excellent, as i normally check the website if i want the league table rather than any other site. have no idea how easy or difficult it is to implement changes on the site and can only express gratitude that i don't have to do this. keep up the good work sidders.

fantastic input chaps

Sid,what about getting it full page or is there a reason why this wasn't done originally,ie cost etc

Rob, not sure what you mean by 'full page' unless you mean not having to scroll down. It is tricky to design a website without having to scroll down the pages as the info you can display this way is very restricted.

I will change the colours of the news boxes but can't work out which colour to pick.

Will email you PU regarding slideshow. Sounds a good idea if I can manage it.

At least the Website has me down as sponsor of Billy Coyne, unlike The Match Day Program.

Unfortunately we are not mind readers, considering the number of changes that goes on it is difficult to keep up with the changes.

I will change it for this weekends programme.
