The problem at the back stems from inexperience. We or I should say the team are still looking for that elusive experienced central defender to marshal the kids. The club tried Ben Lewis, he was not up to it physically. The last good central defender we had was Trotty, not the fastest but got everything in the air. Anyone seen another Billy on their travels.

Normally at our level the youngsters would still be in the reserves learning their trade. most of the ressies would be still in the u18's and, a number of the u18's still in the u16's. You will only find an infinite number of nuggets in the stream in a given area at the same time until the whole stream is panned out. so what do you do, you widen your catchment area to cover more streams. We have more senior youngsters who would benefit from going out on loans, say to faversham, whitstable, herne bay. give them games.

I'll stop as I could write a dissertation on this subject.

That is my point Peter, thank you. Some people are saying things on here without seeing yesterday's game, all the directors of Cray told us they had got out of jail and we played some great passing football. I must say Dan Stubbs was my MOTM, ran tirelessly. tackled well, passed well and scored a superb goal. (one of the players criticised by certain posters I seem to remember).

I was one who critisised the signing of Stubbs, I also said if he could prove me wrong I would say "well done" so far he has shown up well in one match, and we still lost, when he shows himself to be m.o.m in a winning team then he will earn some real credit.

Think you'll find he's played well in most of the matches he's featured in, if he needs to drag the entire team to a victory on his own just to earn your praise i think you'll be waiting along time.

 

But then you'd made your mind up already hadn't you!!!

As I said, if he proves me wrong I'll be more than happy to say well done.

With the greatest of respect Derek, showing up as man of the match consistently, wether the team win or lose is surely much more justified than turning up as man of the match in a winning team. A truly good player is one who always does all he can for the team win or lose, not one who can only play well in a winning team. Any player can look good in a team that consistenly wins, a GREAT player looks good win or lose.
