Town v VCD

With the amount of chances we had we should have buried this game long before the final whistle. VCD came to defend and nick a goal on the counter attack but they defended poorly. Our shooting was abysmal. Even our goal cam e from a header that was the result of a miss hit shot!!

After all the positives I heard about the win over Concord I was anticipating good things on Saturday, but all I saw was a very average Ryman like performance, very disapointing.

It has to be said that the keeper has cost us four points the last two Saturdays, hope his poor spell is now over.

Agree there Gazza.

Over the season Rob has cost us many points. - Oh for Walton from last season.

I believe that Goal and Right Back are our two weak spots in the current team selection.

I think that both of you are being a little unfair. I am not a fan of Rob in goal but do believe that his performances are about right for the level that we play at. We have been spoilt over the years with keepers such as Chopper, Dave Walton and JJ. Even Charlie Hassler has done well when called upon. Rob is an adequate keeper but not an excellent keeper. I worry though that Jason may become demoralised if he is kept out of the side. I note that Darren Bonfield played last night. Why not Jason?

Is he good enough to help us get to the next level?

I was very surprised to hear Jason wasn't played last night. I think he is probably the brightest young keeper around. From an allround ability point of view he is far superior to the other 2 ie agility, shot stopping, fearless. He has played 3 games for the first team ( won 2 and drawn 1 ), last season I hear he let in fewer goals than any other keeper at the club considering he was playing u18 and reserves. Dave Walton spoke well on pitch and looked the part but still didnt think he was a good keeper. I do think Jason deserves a chance to prove his worth or I am afraid another goodun will be lost. As for Rob, I think he is a good keeper but hear he is carrying an injury ( since the beginning of the season ) . Jason seems to be highly thought of at the club but are the managers prepared to play an 18 year old, probably not, hence the departure of Billy Healey. I think the older you are the more you'll be considered, irrespective of your ability.

Also I don't think it is whether he is good enough to get us to the next level, it is whether the team is good enough...............not this season me thinks!!!

But Jason didn't play for Brimsdown as Brimsdown's game was postponed.

Does the management lack flexibility?

It has been pointed out to me that the management never make substitutions at half time. I hadn't noticed. I actually think that the use of subs as a way of changing systems is not usually effective however it can be useful at half time if the existing system is clearly not working. At half time, there is the opportunity for a tactical team talk, and the use of substitutes can ensure that tactics change. This can be effective if the side is attacking strongly but has no "vision" and the side keeps channelling attacks along the same route time after time.

Steph, don't think we were being unfair, just giving honest views, was you at Heybridge? If you were you know our points are valid.

Like I said I hope it is just a bad patch, I remember the fantastic save he made at Great Wakering & some solid games he has had, but agree with you that we have been spoilt with keepers in the past.

Oh dear. Things aren't going too well are they?!

You'd better give Chandler a ring and see if he'll help you form a new Club and once your old lot have gone off to the QE2 you can try to get a groundshare going with Brimsdown, then see if you can enter the Essex Senior League and set yourselves up as "The true team of Enfield."

Eric, things are going brilliantly!! Take a look at the Ryman League table and you'll see. We always knew that with Lowestoft Town and East Thurrock United in the league it'd be a tough ask to win the thing but i'm confident with quality management like Steve and Del at the helm we'll make the play-offs.

I agree with Steph in that Rob Blackburne is good enough for the level we play at, I think that he is neither better or worse than Dave Walton as they have different strengths/weakness's.

I think Rob would improve once we strengthen at full back positions (blower is wobbly form at mo and getting found out), Bastian got away with a dodgy performance v's Concord, however once Ellams is fit again (around the end of January)i'm sure he'll be replaced, and we still need a dynamic midfielder in the Nick Mcoy mould, thats all easier said than done. I too however believe we have JUST enough in our squad to claim 5th place this season.
