Standard of refs

Recommended Posts

For your info.......most of the CCL assessors are either retired officials or officials not of the same standard of the ref so not to give him a lower mark to benefit the assessor season score and possible prmotion to the next level :bootyshake:

In English, Teffs?

Manipulating there way up ladder,I think he means,by marking a guy down. As if any human being would dare?

B.J.R. sounds as though this guy is spoilt by you lot at Dorking, you sure he is the genuine article.Must say though that you are a very friendly bunch there. Can never understand why the assessor lets the Ref.know he is at the game in the first place.Surely this is detrimental, like all things with exams, some breeze through them ,others fail the test.

Agreed. In my experience referee's put in a much poorer performance when they know there's an assesor there as they seem too frightened to not impose themselves with bookings for the silliest of things. The assesors on the other hand always seem like nice normal chaps with a sensible head on their shoulders, not the demons that the refs seem to fear.

Chatting to charlie Breakspear (I think that was his name, the young ref that's moving up the ladder pretty quickly) once he was told by an assesor "you talk to the players to much"I thought he was a good ref and communication between him and players was supherb, these assesors do everything by the book and when a ref is being assesed he losing all common sense.rather than assesors marking them it should be left to managers and clubs to decide in their grading them,I know the marking system is in place already but if the ref tightens up everytime he's being assesed it ruins the game!I remember being told Woking were watching me when I was 18 and there he was geoff chapple in the stand watching me I had the worst game ever.

Have to disagree with you there Smashy. Too often I have seen a referee have a great game and when they give a decision in the 90th minute they lose 10 marks because it goes against the managers team. If an assessor is there it means the ref is under pressure I would agree but surely if they are too move forward you need to be able to cope under pressure. I too have heard comments that an assessor said this and an assessor said that. As with most things you only ever hear those sort of comments but not about the comments that actually improve the referee. Referees should be marked by clubs and an independant observer to get the best idea who is the best referee.

I can remember years ago listening to a conversation where 2 clubs were making sure each other marked the referee up as he was deemed poor so that "We can get rid of him and keep the better referees" :)

 I still think it's all about your view of the situation.

The other night watching a game (Not CCL only thing on locally)Striker goes down as he's challenged by the defender, I did not think it was a foul let alone a penalty, football coach I was with thought it was, Spoke to El Guffer later on and he said it was a free kick as the defender did foul him but it was out side of the box !!!! all different views of the same foul........... football a funny old game

PS, good win for El Guffer in the Surrey Senior Cup knocking out holders Ashford Town (Middlesex)......Sorry Whitelaw
