Hornchurch v Chelmsford FATrophy Replay

Just a few notes, firstly to thank the "Urchins" fans who made me very welcome at Last Nights match, and also to correct the Hornchurch match Report regarding the number of Chelmo fans at the game.

There were far more than the TWELVE reported as was easily seen in the Bar before the game, there were in total well over 100 City fans seated and standing around the ground.

City dominated the first half, even with the wind against them, and until Hornchurch got their goal in the 79th minute they only actually had one shot on target, whereas during the first half City had at least 3 or 4 clear cut chance to put the game beyond the reach of Hornchurch.

City scored two headed goals by Glover from dead ball situations, and as is usual with them their annoying attitude of "job done" nearly cost them the game, as they switched off and allowed Hornchurch back in the game, and but for some desperate defending in the last few minutes could have generated an equaliser and sending the game into extra time and possibly penalties.

From a City fans point of view it gets increasingly annoying that the team don't keep pressing forward when they are ahead, and their somewhat lame efforts in pumping long high balls to a small forward line is just a fruitless exercise, however, whenever they play the ball on the ground they run rings round other teams with their pace.

Man of the match , even though Glover scored the two goals, by far the best player on the field last night was Ricky Holmes, who's close control, speed and ability to turn defenders caused problems to Hornchurch throughout the game.

It turned out to be a somewhat overall scrappy win, and even though Hornchuch were unlucky right at the end of the game not to get an equalising goal, it was a well deserved victory by the better team on the night.

Good luck to Hornchuch for the rest of the season, and if they continue to play as they did in the 2nd half last Saturday against City then they should do well, and hopefully be gracing the Conference south within the next year or two.

lol,was speaking to you at half time, glad you enjoyed your visit. Our match reporter always underestimates the number of visiting fans, usually the more the away support the less it is in his match report. It is his tongue in cheek way of saying that you bought a good few down.

I would agree with you regarding your views of the match, although we could of got something out of the game city deserved the win,in fact our best chance of progressing through to the next round was the last 5 minutes when we got back to 4-4 at melbourne park, city were on the rack then and i felt we should of finished them off there and then but saying that it must of took everything out of our players to get back to 4-4 and they must of fancied their chances of getting one over on you at our place.

I feel that although before the game i thought the weather could of been to our advantage, after the game i felt that it actually worked against us,the two lads at the back for us are not our regular centre halves and against connie south opposition this was slightly exposed.

No problems with the result and i wish you well next round

Totally agree, with both posts, We only started to play in the last half hour, when Chelmo switched off.

Losing Jo Flack in the first half also had an impact.

Still a good night a reasonable Crowd, our new young urchins on the east side, are getting a bit of a reputation. LOL

Just because I know you worry about such things, the match will be played on Saturday, not Sunday or Friday

local fan,are you the security bloke he was talking to???

Yes mate, but I do slightly more then that, I'm actually the match day organiser at MP, so the buck general stops here when it goes tits up.

Hopefully over the two matches we all have managed to repair some of the bad feeling between us over the last few seasons. Fans are fans at the end of the day, and we all care for our clubs.

Best of luck for the rest of the season. I'm not sure how many more games we'll [****!!****] up before the season ends?
