ST. MARY’S CUP SEMI FINAL

Tring Athletic 1-2 Berkhamsted

An anorak from another's Forum was at this one on Tuesday evening, he seemed to think it was a Quarter Final tie unless Football Mitoo have it wrong, surely that wouldn't be the case:

West Herts St Marys Cup QF

Tring Athletic v Berkhamsted

£5 admission

£1 programme

Attendance 102 (inc. a few gobby Berko fans)

A poor local derby played in very windy conditions. Berko had the wind in the first half which was an advantage and they duly took the lead with an effort from just outside the box. Despite the wind both teams kept hoofing it and getting nowhere. In the 2nd half the wind was even stronger but Tring didn't learn from Berko's mistakes and kept smashing the ball downfield and out of play. Eventually they scored a very scrappy equaliser after a goalmouth scramble. Berko then scored with the last kick of the game with a screamer in to the top corner, against the wind! The only bit of quality in 90 mins. Tring have now been knocked out of the all the cups for the season, I make that 6! Shame considering they won 3 of them last season.

BEDS SENIOR CUP FIRST ROUND

Biggleswade United 0-2 Stotfold

Another report from Tuesday evening from another's Forum:

BIGGLESWADE UNITED (0) 0 v 2(1) STOTFOLD

Attendance 40 h/c

Bedfordshire Senior Cup

Admission £4 (including good programme), Tea 50p Packet of peanuts 50p

On Tuesday evening I made my first visit to the revamped Second Meadow, home of Biggleswade United. The ground has now been fully enclosed and with it has gone the rural feel it used to have. A double turnstile block gains you entry to the ground, the club house and dressing rooms remain outside the perimeter fencing. On entering the ground there now stands a 260 seater stand on the left hand side where once a hedge seperated United from the Town ground. Biggleswade Town have now departed for pastures new and United have built up a ground that will assist them if aspirations to go further exist at the club. On a personal view I felt the enclosing of the ground gave it a bit of a claustrophobic feel.

The game was a Beds Senior Cup tie with local rivals and United Counties League side Stotfold the visitors. It turned out to be a comfortable win for UCL side in a match played in strong, gusty winds that made the game a lottery at times. Stotfold took the lead at the dying embers of a forgetful first half, George Brinkman firing home a shot through a crowded penalty area. Ten minutes into the second half the visitors sealed the game from the penalty spot, with Stuart Lockhead making no mistake. This seemed to take the heart out of the home side and Stotfold dominated the game until the final whistle. A trip to Barton Rovers in the New Year being the reward for there efforts.
