FULL TIME: HITCHIN 0-1 RICAY

Once again a good team performance. At times it was backs against the wall and you can't deny that there was some hearts in mouths moments but we came through. I thought everyone was solid to a fashion. We did allow their midfield a little too much space to do what they liked. This is certainly something that does require working on. We appear to have sorted out our defence, we now have to twaek our midfield. I believe we only got away with it last night because the Hitchin finishing was so poor. I know I may be being churlish here but, this was against lower opposition and we do have a league position to consider. Any other opposition at our level, we may end up struggling. Still, for me men of the match were our back five, especially Oates and Macca and James Baker, who ran his socks off again.

If you read the Hitchin forum, you get one opinion of ref and linesman in league against their team, whilst they (for once), applied the rules of the game. Ha, ha. There were plenty of incidents where challnges on 'Ricay players were ignored or resulted in a drop ball. Then again, to balance, we did have some given around the box but I believe the ref was being charitable. He did appear to want to send someone off again and their no. 3 was suitably shown the red card about five minutes from time for allegedly kicking out at Billy while he ran past. And yes there was a smattering of play acting again, although not at the level of last Saturday. Funniest moment for me...one of their players pushing over Macca in our box and then bleating up for a penalty. Quality.

Well done to all the lads...Now lets keep this going for Boreham Wood on Saturday.

Total disgrace from the ref and 2nd half linesman tonight (and I really do not say something like this lightly.)

Nothing wrong with the goal at all and challanges going in unpunished felt it was a poor performance all around.

I feel very robbed one good linesman and who knows.

How ironic!

I've just had a read through Hitchin's forum too, and it certainly does appear that the linesman won it for us.

It was obvioulsy nothing to do with their poor finishing!

The game wasn't a great spectacle, but I thought we did what we needed to do - tackle hard, not react to their tactics, score a goal, and win the game.

Well done to all, particularly at the back.

They had the lion's share of posession, but with their ineptness up front and our strong defending, real chances were few.

We had our own fair share of chances, and had Baker put his excellent left-foot volley just the other side of the post early in the 2nd half, it would have seemed a lot more comfortable.

They had a disallowed own goal towards the end (Cousins?) which was apparently the wrong decision according to them, but the flag was up early and the whistle had gone well before Cousins touched it, so he probably did it on purpose for a laugh!

So back to the league for Saturday, and the real need for 3 points.

I think those of us that suffered at Boring Wood in August deserve a good performance on Saturday to put it out of our minds!

Another plus is that we have Tonbridge coming up soon, so 2 games against Hitchin is ideal preparation for what we'll no doubt have to endure there.

I enjoyed last night - nice to see a decent home crowd and a nice ground (although, wooden terracing??).

Also had the pleasure of meeting some Bedford Town fans who decided to cheer us on with their own game being called off.

Nice bunch and hope they do well.

Looking forward to Rushden, but there's more important things first.

Just 1 loss in 10 - Bring on Saturday!

Well done to our lads! A triumph of endeavour which gives the fans a great day out and the team a freeroll against Rushden.

There wasn't much in it over the two games, but I agree with a couple of posters above, that if the Hitchin fans want to blame anyone, they should be blaming their own strikers - That is surely an area they must address if and when they get promoted.

They had most of the possession but we also had some good chances. I agree we dropped deep as the game went on but I suppose that's natural in our position. We defended resolutely though and although I'm sure most of us would rather have league points on the board, the last couple of games does suggest that we now have a squad that are playing for each other.

The only thing more laughable than the ref's performance over the two games was the announcement that the gate was 219.

Let's hope our improvement can continue on Saturday. Come on you Blues!!

219?

They must have made a mistake.

Is this match one where the gate receipts are shared 50/50?

If so, I would think that this must be questioned by someone

There was at least 150 behind their goal and at least 50 Ricay fans, that leaves 19 in the stand ????

Looks like they need arithmetic lessons !!!

I thought over the two games we deserved to go through, especially on determination and effort and I can't wait for Rushden!!

I thought all the guys put in maximum effort and it was good to see Baker scoring again, and once again he ran his socks off, improving every game. There were some good chances that Hitchin missed and that cost them, we have taken our chance and they haven't.

I think this game will give the team more confidence then any previous game, especially when Hitchin have only lost once so far in the season so never know maybe this could be our turning point? Having only lost once in the last 8, and 3 clean sheets in a row I really hope we can apply this to league games now.
