u15s kent county cup

the go between

the under 15's progressed to the third round of the kent County Cup today with a 6-4 extra time victory over Coxheath and farleigh juniors at a wet and windy Minster recreation ground . a topsy turvey game on a growingly heavy pitch was full of quality goals , excitement , good football and a full on cup tie atmosphere.

Margate took control early and a 2 goal lead with goals from Josh Twyman (25 yard belter) and a follow up rebound off the keeper poach from Shane Mitchell after 20 minutes was a fair reflection of our fluid passing football at that stage , C&F were always dangerous on the break and when a lack of concentration in central defence allowed them to score just prior to half time it allowed them maybe for the first time to think they could get in the shake up .

Second half started and after Margate passing it nicely for the first 5 minutes but with no real cutting edge C&F first threatened to and then did get the equaliser they deserved.

Tre mitford then hit a superb goal from 22 yards beating their keeper all ends up with a precision drive , his "cool" goal celebration didnt really do the goal justice but we were back "in Control" . Margate continued on the attack looking for the goal that would wrap it up but despite some good approach play just could'nt find the 4th.

Last minute of the match C&F clear off their own goal line , a long clearence see's their striker (looked offside) run clear on our goal, all hell broke loose, defenders throwing themselves at the ball, a great save from keeper Josh Mattless, a goal mouth scramble and eventually a shot from their striker which was met with a superb 1 handed save on the line , unfortunately it was our centre half Daniel Osggod who made the save , Daniel got straight red and the last kick of regulation time was the C&F striker ramming home the penalty.

We needed to reorganise , 3-3 in a game we had largely dominated and down to 10 men on what was now a bog , we made 4 changes and then it all came good , in the first 7 minutes of being down to 10 men we hit three quality goals , Tre Mitford hitting 2 ( Hat trick) and Shane getting his second , the build up play was top drawer and all three stunning finishes with Tre, Shane and Josh Twyman all combining . C&F did get a late consolation but after the first half of extra time blitz we all knew it was game over .

All credit to Coxheath they battled and battled and were a credit to their club , but our lads had to dig deep and again showed their character and team spirit when things started to look as though they were going a little pear shaped .

Todays squad was Josh Mattless , James Olver , Connor Armstrong , Nick Symaka , Captain Alex Miles , Connor Lintott , Harvey Colston , Jamie Gregory-Davis , Daniel Gregory-Davis , Shane Mitchell , Josh Twyman, Tre Mitford , Callum Brooman , Sam Reeves , Daniel Osgood and making a return after 5 months out through injury Logan Pugh

An excellent result and a very good match report thank you. It definately seems that we have a very good youth setup at the club.
