Danny Hockton returning?

Has played no10 in the 5 out of last 6 games missing only a cup game against Heybridge Swifts. Correct me if I am wrong but, didn't he always seem to be carrying a knock when he was here.

I'm not convinced he would have been the signing that we all want. He hasn't really done much since leaving us, mainly due to injuries. The reason clubs release these players is that they are not performing.

This is why I cringe at speculation from people "in the know"

Hockton had been on course for a return to Hartsdown Park before signing for Maidstone, and Margate manager Mark Butler revealed his frustration at missing out on the deal.

He told Kent News: “We made an enquiry about Danny this week and I think it was that enquiry which sparked the interest from elsewhere.

“I don’t know how it was leaked – there was a story on our website saying we wanted to sign an ex-Margate forward and Maidstone stepped in for him. I had a really good chat with Danny but unfortunately we couldn’t agree personal terms.”

The "website" in question is of course this one. This isn;t a criticism - speculation is half the fun on a forum. But, even that can have implications and I guess can be frustrating if you're Mark Butler.

C'est la vie.

I think some of this specualation comes from rumours at games, maybe some people in the know just can't keep quiet?? I have heard rumours at game too but unless I see it confirmed on the web site or in the paper (as it is then public knowledge) I just keep these to myself.

I guess that confirms Danny was the ex popular 'Gate striker now!

Perhaps our next target will be a less popular former striker. I have no one in mind for that tag, by the way!

:biglaugh:

Am still not sure Danny would have been fit enough but I guess if he had scored the goals we wouldn't have cared!

Just looked back on where rumour originated about a popular ex Gate striker being signed and, indeed, it did come from the game, so someone in the know must have blabbed, can't blame the ordinary fan for putting it on here.

Absolutely - as I said, that's kind of what the forum is for! And in any case, where it's a positive debate it all adds to the positive feel around the club so I think it ultimately all evens itself out. Although I'd guess MB doesn't see it that way entirely!

While this is a blow, I'm still not entirely convinced that Danny hockton would have been a good signing for the club. He left us for Blue Square South football which i would imagine pays more as well, where by all accounts he has been nowhere near as prolific as he was here. I can also see him wanting to be paid more than is good for a squad that has only just finished paying off hmrc. If he scores hatfuls of goals for Maidstone then I may regret this post, but if as has been happening he spends more time on the physio table than he does on the pitch I will count it as a lucky escape.

I find myself agreeing with JJ.

You also question DH motives-how long does he see his marriage to maidstone lasting- as just a little bit of due diligence on his behalf may reveal that whilst all clubs are financially struggling-if what i read is correct (and it may not be of course ) Maidstone may be struggling financially more than most. (especially if they go out of the trophy tomorrow )

However-we could of course help them out by signing JAY SAUNDERS-now that would be a worthwhile signing.

Equally-i reckon this is a blessing in disguise-fitness and form questions about DH.

Frankly i am amazed that MB was after him and whilst i have been advocating MB as a manager for over 15 months and reckon he will do real good at MFC;i am a bit surprised when one week he criticises the current players for their fitness levels ;and the next week is looking to sign Danny-not the slimmest player, and best trainer in the world-Hockton.

How has that gone down with the players he was criticising for their fitness a week ago ?
