Slough Town 3-2 Bromsgrove

Not the best of games, and in the end really should have added some more goals. After two defeats though, a win will do nicely.

Started off quite sloppy in the first-half and the opening goal we conceded was poor. However, I always felt we were in control of the match although their pacey striker caused us a lot of problems.

One very concerning thing is a number of players look like they are playing at 50% due to injuries which is a problem and the squad is quite thin at the moment.

Thought DJ was MOM closely followed by Sweeney. Also thought Grant Avis made an impressive full home debut for us.

Would agree with that assessment, although was disappointed we didn't kill the game off when they went down to ten men.

We also struck lucky with the missed penalty. The worst penalty I've seen since AFC Wimbledon Supporters v Slough Supporters back in the day...........

DJ had a very good game and the lobbed pass when he played in Avis was class. Avis put himself about well and did a good job I thought.

Any idea where Rob Kean was? That was the first game he missed this season I think which leaves Sweeney as the only ever present.

We move back up to 4th and Chesham drew at Stourport so we are now back within striking distance of them.

Good result and lets hope we can now get a little run going.

I think my friend who came to the game with me put it best: 'that was a game which we could easily have won 5-2, but could also have lost 4-3.'

I think that while we looked much better going forward, we also looked shakey at the back, and yes we relied on a lot of luck when the second Bromsgrove penalty flew over the bar. Jordan had a good game, probably one of his best in a Slough shirt, as did Sinclair and Herron, with the midfield two proving more effective than in previous games. Harper had a good game towards the end but did give away a penalty.

Two wins from the next two games, which on paper are very winnable, and we should be set nicely in the playoffs.

We are actually 5th in the league after last night, behind Rothwell but ahead of Atherstone (who have played 3 more games) on goal difference. Arlesey can still go above us as they have a game in hand and a superior goal difference.

3 points off Burnham (who have played a game less) and Chesham (who have played a game more) and 6 off Hitchin, who still have a game in hand.

These playoff spots are still there for the taking at this stage, we need to keep the pace with the teams above us.

Looks like your friend must have been on his own at the game, think you will find that Herron gave the first penalty away and Murphy (adjudged handball) the 2nd, Jordan and Sweeney both had good games

We were saying exactly the same - almost word for word! For the record, the first penalty looked questionable to us at the Rovers' end but the second was a blatant handball.

Thanks for a decent evening out though. You play pretty attractive football and ought really to be ought of this league. Good luck for the rest of the season (except when you travel to us) and with your new ground!

Well done to the team for a good performance and showing that Saturday was just an off day all round.

Well done to Steve Sinclair who showed that he is coming back to his best, to Chris Herron who had his best game since coming back from injury and to Ricky Perks who's catching and distribution was excellent tonight.

Perks lack of distribution caused the first goal by passing it wide (rather than clearing it himself) to a player who had the oposition right on him causing the loss of the ball and then when the ball was headed in he stood there like a lemon and made no movement to stop it going in - I was stood in the stand only yards away from the incident and could not believe what was happening. I can not believe why Jackson is not playing considering Perks total inability to kick a ball and his lack of movement at times.

On a positive note I have to praise the ref for a good game, even though he gave two penalties against us - but both were valid and fair, but the action that proved his worth was the way in which he dealt with the sending off by going straight to the player and issuing the cards before there was the opertunity for any handbags from either side. This nipped in the bud the handbags usually involved, the player got the message that he was going off and then dissappeared in seconds, and the remaining players saw that the ref meant business.

MOTM was DJ, pity we will miss him on his honeymoon to Oz.

I thought Danny Jordan last night had his best game for Slough this season and hopefully this will be the start of a better run for him. I,too, thought Chris Herron had his best game since pre season and will be an asset for us,once over this niggling injury.

What was good about the Bromsgrove game was that both sides played with passion, spirit and enthusiasm, which made for an entertaining game, unlike the Atherstone and Chesham games !

Was surprised Steve Bateman took off Simon Martin, though,as I thought he and DJ were working well together.

The only Slough player who I thought had a stinker last night was Danny Murphy, which was a real surprise,as he's been a credit to the team in every other game this season.Still, everyone has an off day.

When the Bromsgrove player got sent off,I thought the tackle he made was malicious and reckless and thought Danny Murphy would be unable to continue but to see Murphy bounce up once the player was carded , for me was, embarassing and unfair. I would have preferred if he had rolled about a bit and made it look worse! lol !

why is everyone out to slag off Perks. its not like Jacko's kicking and distribution is that good either and Perks is so so much stronger on crosses

good win last night in what may have looked a game we should win if looking at the table but of course Bromsgrove would be close to us had they not had the 10 points taken off

lets hope the next 2 games we do our job and push up away from midtable teams and comfortably in the playoff spots

IMO pretty unfair to Slag Perks off for the one mistake he made last night. Other than that I thought he had a good game.

At all levels of football goalkeepers have their faults.

IMO Perks is the 1st choice keeper because he is more commanding and assured at catching the ball from crosses etc and quicker at coming off his line.

I agree Mr Rebel, apart from Perks kicking he's been excellent for us. Kept us in it when we played Leighton away. Jacko by his own admission will probably agree he's made a couple of errors this season - thinking about one long-range shot that went in at home (can't remember who against) and Hemel's at home. Jacko is a top guy and a quality keeper, but Perks deserves to be number one in my opinion.
