Own accord... alledgedly... maybe... in that I don't really know and it's just what someone might've told me!

In this article back in February Ossie Ardiles says that Pablo is enjoying himself at Hertingfordbury Park, I guess he just stopped enjoying himself and decided to quit, it will be interesting to see where he ends up next:

I see the story of Pablo's departure from Hertingfordbury Park has made the Non League Today Website:

What the bloody hell is goin on over hertford??? I have an affinity for the blues and some good friends from Hertford past and present so im loathe to make a negative comment but its gettin ridiculous now! No chairman, no manager, and a poorly performing side. And last time I was there there wasnt even a liquor licence in place!! Sort it out and get this once great club back on track!!!!

(......wonder if we can nab any of their players......)

The booze license is now restored so no problems with getting a pint at the bar. As for all the other stuff - I'm kind of wondering who is left to actually sort it out.

It all seemed to slowly start falling apart shortly after Horace and HTFCew severed ties with the Club or is that just coincidence

It's just a coincidence. It started falling apart when the Ryman League dumped it's Div 2 into the wilderness. Show me one of the 16 clubs who were abandoned who's thriving now.

Ah, but you know that it was a decision that was beyond the Isthmian control to the most part. The League were fighting for their very survival in the teeth of the combined Conference and Southern League attack on it. If they'd had their way the Isthmian would not exist today as a feeder to Step 2. Creating 2 divisions at Step 4 was an essential to keep parity with the Southern and satisfy the NLS grand plan. They were not 'allowed' to have an additional division.

You say 16 clubs were 'abandoned', it was actually 13 as Ware, Witham & Flackwell went into Div 1 North. And 'abandoned 'seems a bit chip on shoulder big H. The clubs fed into Isthmian 1 and they continued to have the opportunity to do so post 2005/6 season (or Southern 1). If you're looking for someone to blame for any ' non thriving' of those clubs you can only look to the clubs themselves, however painful that may be. They were Step 5 clubs pre-2005/06 and 4 years on they remain at that level to the most part.

Of those who went up, Ware remain but perhaps that proves the point that Step 5 was and remains the best level of the 'abandoned'. Personally speaking the 2 clubs who are the underperforming surprise are Chertsey and Hertford who appear obstinate in their love for Step 5.

Of course I'm bitter - Hertford had been members of the Isthmian for 35 years. Now they're dumped in the wilderness. If Harefield had had the balls to score one more goal in their last match, Bigg T's wonderful new ground would still be hosting Step 5 football. Would you have fancied winning it this season?

now, now, Horace!

we all know it was Harefields poor performance against Kentish Town that cost them the title, Rhodes said so! :coffee (2):

I think you're confusing things. You bitter? Nah, you've been around the game long enough to know that getting close to anything in football is a passing thing and then you have to get on to something else. Players, managers, fans, teams you enjoy visiting - it's all fleeting to a degree. People come and go and so do your surroundings and league sometimes. That's just football and you know it. Disappointed? Yes I can go with that emotion. Sad? Yes to that also. But when Hertford get back there as I am sure they will one day, your smiling face will be worth taking a photo of.

And yes I firmly believe Bigg Town would have gone 100% for promotion this season if Harefield had scored 'that' goal. The plan found itself a year ahead in any event. It's just some people are more impatient than others and once that sniff of glory was in the air it was something to fight the odds for. The team had the luxury of not looking over their shoulder. It was like a game of staring someone out, every time Bigg Town picked up 3 points from their matches in hand, Harefield pee'd their pants a little. Just to have taken it to the last day and lost out to Harefield would have been good enough for me in a way. You have to take knockbacks sometimes in order to get up and get better.

Hertford is a good area, the support should be there and let's face it they could be competing at Step 4 or 3 (I hear BBV&E have a suitable keeper). Hertford need a brief but well placed kick up the ar$e to dislodge them that's all. It'll happen.

It does seem a shame to see a club of Hertford's potential im such disarray. They do have a reasonable support & I'm sure with a little success that could grow quite quickly. I'm dure Horace or past board members have tried it in the past, but I thought they might have received a bit of backing from Mc Mullens to create a strong community based club.

You're right Wader. However, who will step up to the plate and lead the club back to it's former mediocrity? There are always a few willing volunteers at any club, but it takes a very special type (or a rich one) to make that difference.

What I meant about Bigg T and this season was - would they have been good enough to win the league in 2009/10. Of course they would have gone for it, but I think Aylesbury will have bought the title this year. And then next season it will be Club X.
