Thamesmead v Town

Good analysis Barney.

It was also pleasing to see the full backs also coming forward to support the wide midfield players.

However it must not be forgotten that Thamesmead's midfield was feeble and their forwards after the early headless chickens, which happens in most games at this level, were virtually statues until the last 20 mins.

Sorry Steph, but you are failing to give our own midfield sufficient credit. I though Thamesmead's midfield was pretty good, particularly Mulholland and Perona. However, they were snuffed out in the final third by our extremely hard-working foursome. Again Rikki Cable was a threat up front for Thamesmead, but got no change out of Mark Kirby and Gio. And 19-goal Andy Constable hardly had a kick!

The most satisfying aspect of this win was that it was a win over GOOD opposition.

Good opposition.

Their only memorable results as far as I can see is a 1-0 win over Northwood. and 1-1 draw against Wingate and Finchley. What is more alarming is that Heybridge beat them 2-0 and Heybridge won 3-0 yesterday.

I think their position in the league was flattering to them and does not demonstrate their true level of ability.

I think a bit of both is true... they didn't look that sharp at all yesterday, although a lot of that could be put down to how well we played. I thought they did try to play footie as much as possible, and I lost count of the number of times that their centre midfielders picked the ball up from the keeper / centre backs, and although we let them play there, we worked very hard as soon as they got higher up the pitch. As far as I'm concerned, they're second in the table for a reason, and 15 games into the season, that has to be a reasonably accurate reflection...

It was interesting hearing their left-back talking to one of their fans during a break in play in the 2nd half, basically saying that it's just one of those things that happens in football - we had turned up and were really up for it, whilst they hadn't.
