Thamesmead v Town

What a quality, pleasing performance! Just one of those games where everything comes off perfectly. The midfield 4 worked incredibly hard to deny Thamesmead space, the front two caused them lots of problems (best game I've seen Wallace have, and 2 quality finishes from Hope), and the defence played very well, with some composed defending, and great last minute challenges (McKay especially). One of those games where any one of our outfield players could have been MoM, but the most pleasing thing was the workrate, tempo and commitment. Very well done to all concerned, and let's have lots more performances like that!

P.S. 2h15 to get there, 40 minutes to get back...

I was surprised at how poor Thamesmead were considering their position in the league. They wanted to play football but did not have the skills to go with the ambition. They were caught in possession far too often. There was a brilliant collection by Hope in the first half by the half way line towards the bye line when a high long clearance came down to him. Most would have expected him to head it but he bought it down with his foot with perfect control. It would have graced a premiership game and was a real delight at this level.

Stuart's not fit. Talking to him after the game, even 15-20 mins left him very sore. Although more performances like the ones Wallace and Hopes put in last night and we won't have to rush him back with a spot of luck.

It's games like last night that make watching the dross we served up at Wingate & Finchley worth it! Team selection, tactics, attitude and performance all spot on, an excellent night.

Agree with Steph's point about Thamesmead. All credit to them for trying to play good football, even when 3-0 down, but they didn't have a Plan B, which I feel you have to have if things are going badly. There's no shame in putting your foot through the ball if you're under enormous pressure 15 yards from you own goal! Still let's not worry about them, eh.

Same again Saturday please.
