A great draw for Royston Town who are more than capable of going one better than Hillingdon Borough did in 2006.

Good draw for Brimsdown too, at home, NPTown not doing as well as last season in UCL Prem, we (New Bradwell) got a 1-1 pre-season draw at their place, were the better team and they equalised in injury time, so think Brimsdown can definately get a result.

Yes, I'm quite confident that the SSML can have at least two teams in the last sixteen

I'm surprised there has been no mention of the three FA Vase Third Round ties yesterday, I'm assuming the Watchfull Listener wasn't at Garden Walk or Jonno at Lowfield:

F.A. Vase Third Round

0 4 Hoddesdon Town v Kirkley & Pakefield

I know Royals26 won't mind me using his comprehensive post from another's Forum. Disappointing to hear that the programmes sold out as a gate of around 150 must have been predicted:

FA VASE 3rd ROUND

Stewart Edwards Stadium, Lowfield

Hoddesdon Town 0-4 Kirkley & Pakefield

Attendance: - not seen an official one yet - h/c around 170-180

Admittance : £5.00 + £3.00 for kids

- Programme: £1.50 - sold out - BUT we 'found' one in the clubhouse. Its astounding - more akin to a Phone Directory than a programme - not sure if it was particularly large because of the FA Vase tie but it ran to well over 128pp - very few ads.

... was sort of two programmes in one as detailed in the Contents page - 72pp re the Match and the current club record - away team profile etc:

Then a 'special insert' of 36 pages - numbered with Roman Numerals, containing History but also lots more records/details/maps from the current SSMFL structure.

The only drawback to this weighty tome was that the 'compiler' had accidentally shuffled the two bits together which made it quite tricky to follow - what with the 'Normal' and 'Roman' numbered pages somewhat randomly interspersed.

Can see why they regularly win awards.

Ground - Directions - Facilities: Lowfield is fairly easy to find - head N from M25 J25 up the A10 - @ about 6.5 miles take the exit signed Hoddesdon and turn right/east- actually is called the A10 (Dinant) link.

Straight over first roundabout; right at the 2nd - heading south and west on Charlton Way (A1170 - probably signed Broxbourne/Wormley). This skirts the Town Centre, head straight across the (Sainsbury's) Superstore Roundabout - the road then swings right then left (south) when it becomes the High Street.

At the next Roundabout head right/west into [****!!****] Lane - Park View is the first right Lowfield entrance about 50-100yds on the left.

Quite a big crowd but I'd imagine for league games there's plenty of parking in Park View itself - though the opposite side has restrictions - I dropped my Mate and 'The Lad' off outside the gates and drove a little further to find a space.

... has a moderately sized clubhouse incorporating a Tea Hatch which did the usuals - Hot Drinks, Sweets Burgers and Hot Dogs - think the ladies running the Kiosk - known as 'Grandma Merton's' - were caught out by the size of the crowd - think they had to send out for more Rolls.

There isn't much cover save for one medium size stand containing 100 + seats - we snuck in there when the drizzle became a light shower late in the 2nd Half.

Match: Bit of a stroll this - the STEP06 side couldn't cope with the higher ranked away sides strength pace and movement - though were game enough.

Will be interesting tomorrow to see if K&P draw one of the higher-placed sides 'local' to me, next round on the 16th Jan (I think?) - could be quite a contest.

Doubt very much if I'd trek all the way to Lowestoft though, should they get a home tie - and nearly all of my 'local' sides would involve a revisit - not something I'd usually consider on a Saturday.

It'll give you yet another of your "reasons" to dislike me

Sjj2112 - As the other thread has just been locked I'll respond to your post here. You sound like we are back in the school playground but rest assured that I don't dislike you one bit, you're a nice guy and I appreciated the programme you got me from the game you went to at Alfreton Town last season, I just wish you would lighten up a bit.

Why should Royals26 mind, did you attend an FA Vase game yesterday out of interest.

I love groundhoppers.

We're in good company as Sjj2112 is certainly one of those

Rhodes, I think it's mischievous of you to suggest that sjj2112 is, indeed, a meat-axe murderer. Maybe you would like to retract this accusation before this thread gets moved to another forum....or sjj2112 gets a 25 year stretch. Thank you.

Not a bad part of the country though wader

Delightful. In fact I was there and thereabouts with the Mrs for a short break recently. Indeed, I can say I have recently been to Annfield Plain FC, Tow Law FC and Ashington

Seriously love Northumberland though, but those damned electric generating windmills on the moors are an eyesore.

Nellie - For once we are in agreement, we almost moved to Alnwick once and I love the Lindisfarne Islands, Bamburgh and Seahouses but one thing mystifies me, why did you desert your roots and move down South

Once again, you assume wrong cliff.

I was at Lowfield on Saturday, we got totally outplayed by a side who were head and shoulders above us in terms of class and ability. Yes we did run out of programmes, all 150 of them!!!! You ever sold that many Cliff?? More to the point, you ever made that many, without cutting and pasting from other peoples efforts??

We took a small fortune on the gate, a packet on programmes, a healthy sum on the golden goal, some serious wedge on the tea bar and an even larger packet on the bar, not to mention a couple of thousand or so in prize money along the way.

We had an amazing cup run in the vase this season, getting to Round 3 and the last 64 teams, leaving us with some great memories and outstanding football to cherish and we hold our heads high for a campaign that brought back stirring memories of when we won the first ever FA Vase at Wembley Stadium over 30 years ago.

How are Tokyngton doing by the way?
