Sporting Bengal

Recommended Posts

What is going on at the ESL. We turn down the above, at the same time as Woodford and SW are apparentley leaving, then the Kent League take them on no problem.

There seems to be no initiative in the ESL at present for encouraging new talent.

There are a few goos sides in the Essex Intermediate, but something seems to put them off coming across.

We need to sort this out for the future of our county league.

We'll see how clever the Kent League were when they start playing. Sporting Bengal are reputedly one of only two Bangladeshi clubs in Senior football in the whole country, and are a kind of Dream Team from the Bangladeshi F A. They actually played in the London Intermediate last season and only applied for the London Senior Cup. The main concern was that they wouldn't be strong enough to compete in the ESL, and Ilford claimed that even their reserves were too strong for them.

Remember Bury Academy?

Saffron Walden wanted to leave, the league didn't want to lose them. Concerns were raised that Woodford would not be able to sustain the standards required of a Senior club, and I'm not talking about playing strength. Although being relied upon to field a team each Saturday is one of them.

As for Intermediate clubs, if they have a ground of Senior standard (as defined by the county F A, not the ESL) they can apply. Perhaps they don't feel they want or need to go Senior.

Baldrick, as ever you are technically correct, however my point was more about the ESL encouraging new membership as the size of the league dwindles.

How about havings it's own intermediate section, or some form of merger with the Essex Intermediate, a bit like how Row joint the Spartan a few years back.

That way teams could serve an apprenticship before becoming fully fledged members, but could take part in joint cup competitons with their senior counterparts.

Good point Boroman. That idea could progress into it being more of a two division league with promotion and relegation between the two levels. That would certainly make the end of the season more interesting for more clubs.

You may be interested to know that, subject to them being granted Senior status (which Essex F A say is merely a formality, but don't quote me on that), there will be a new club in the ESL by the name of London APSA (which I believe stands for Asian Peoples Sporting Association). Groundsharing at Aveley, and by all accounts would kick Sporting Bengal's collective bot from here to, well, Bangladesh. Still an unknown quantity administratively (before you quote Bury Academy back at me) but a better bet than SB and at least it keeps the league up to sixteen teams if they do make the grade.

Saffron Walden have resigned and look like they are out on a limb for next season, while Woodford were voted out of the league by the clubs on the grounds of failing to meet the standards required by the league. They were unable to provide a sufficient guarantee that they would be sorted out for the new season.

Eton Manor may have problems with a ground next season as their groundshare at Potters Bar may leave them with limited pitch availability, and even then only in midweek! However the clubs have rallied round them in view of their previous conduct and several have offered the use of their own facility for Manor's home fixture against them.

I feel Bas will be well equipped for the title as will Concord and maybe the boys of romford. Can i ask why do all the teenagers of romford think they are in blazing squad ??? answers on a postcard .
