happy st albans day

It was pretty busy, it's all going on again tonight and tomorrow, nice to see lots of people milling around and I could hear Eminem from my house with the windows closed.

I live 10 minutes from The Bowl and unlike most of my neighbours, I'd like there to be gigs there every day! Unless it's Bon Jovi like it usually is...

The M25. A strange one.

I was travelling anti clockwise and at 15 mph in solid traffic east of the first tunnel. I noticed that there was no traffic coming clockwise.

To the west of the second tunnel, I saw ahead of me a dozen police cars and ambulances having stopped all thre lanes of the clockwise section as a result of an accident. I saw only one damaged car behind which was three miles of stationary traffic, with all/most of the occupants atanding outside their vehicles. eventually at the and of the three mile section, the police were turning cars around to send them back, anti clockwise along the clockwise section. A surreal touch.

Eventually, those cars travelling backwards [in a manner of speaking - they were travelling in a forwards direction but on the 'wrong' side of the motorway] were directed onto the A1.

The problem on my side was that, for some reason, the police closed the outside lane of the anti-clockwise side of the motorway at the point of the accident on the clockwise side. so, our problem was 3 lanes reducing to 2 and all the rubbernecking.

Horrendous.

Did you see me, LMU?

Hi EFMsL.

The apparent street party that I described was taking place before the rain.

'Rubbenecking' is an expression descibing people who stretch their necks around to observe a car accident or other phenomenen.

You have either too much or too litle imagination, Effem Sel!

Just re-read yours' EFMsL.

Aquaplaning is a not very exciting effect when there is a layer of water between all 4 tyres and the surface of the road. Effectively, the car is skimming over the surface of the water and, at times, not in contact with the road.

The first problem is that the driver is not aware that he/she is in that condition immediately.

The second problem arises when the driver turns the steering wheel and the car continues ina straight line. Braking is, eventually, effective but, usually too late.

No imagination, Effem Sel.

Never made it on to the M25.

Fortunately Dad - in the car behind - found out about the M25 just in time, literally. We were on the slip road about to join it (I say about to join it, all cars were stationary at the time) when Mum got the call that there was a problem.

A couple of cars on front slipped down a little rat-run that lead...err...onto an other road (I guess this r-r is for just such an emergency, so hurrah for running rats, I say!). It took 2 and a half hours to make a 1 to 1 hour 15 min journey in the end, but ultimately quicker as at least we didn't have to back-track.

I wish people would learn how to drive - it's really not that difficult. In poor conitions, you s-l-o-w down!!!

Sorry to be pedantic, LMU, but the accident on the clockwise side took place at 6.30 ish pm.

Nothing wrong with the driving conditions then.

Are you sure you didn't see me? Yellow and Blue scarves out of each back window? Nodding minature of Steve 'The Legend' Clark on the parcel shelf? Nodding model of Billy Minter on the dashboard?
