FA VASE 2ND ROUND FIXTURES

Recommended Posts

Just added an article on the Vase games on http://www.thecoldend.blogspot.com including the games for the SSMFL sides.

SATURDAY

Stanway Rovers V Hadley

Kirkley and Pakefield V Biggleswade United

Needham Market V Bedford

Wellingborough Town V Royston Town

Chalfont St Peter V Peacehaven and Telscombe

SUNDAY

Brimsdown Rovers V London Colney

Wembley V Hoddesdon

I can only see Royston, Brimsdown and Wembley getting a result. CSP's form is terrible loosing last six games and may (hoepfully not) go out at first hurdle after last season's brilliant run.

Hadley and Bedford will find it tough going against top ECL sides and Biggleswade United go to K&P (12 league and cup games at home = 10 wins, 1 draw 1 defeat...GF 35 GA 3 (all in one match)..

Good luck to all SSMFL sides.

I think writing of Hoddesdon against Wembley is a bit harsh....wembley rock bottom won 1 in last 7 (which was cup game against enfield 1893 squad players) last clean sheet was a donkey time ago hoddy won last 4 with 3 clean sheets in a row, personally i think ul see a good game on sunday afternoon and not be as one sided as your predictions say!!

Yammers, Cheers for recognising my mistake....I think Hoddy will win at rock bottom Wembley... Sorry to all fans of Hoddy..

Also I'd love to see either Hadley, Bedford or Biggy U win at the ECL clubs but can't see it if I look at it neutrally... ECL tradionally a strong league in the Vase and the three teams ....Needham Market, Stanway and Kirkley and Pakefield all near to the top!!

Chalfont St Peter V Peacehaven and Telscombe

A report on this one from another's Forum, the attendance seemed a bit disappointing:

FA Vase 2nd Round

Chalfont St Peter 1 Peacehaven & Telscombe 5 Att: 100( h/c)

Adults £6 Prog £1

C/burger £3 Tea/Coffee £1

With my travelling companion telling me on Fri night that this game would definately not go ahead due to the weather, it was a pleasant surprise when ringing on Sat morn to be told the game was definately ON, especially as i didn't really have any back up games.

Chalfont may rue their eagerness to get the game played though, after being torn apart in the 2nd half by their Sussex visitors, though i hadn't realised until after that they had had 6 straight defeats before today, strangely though, preceded by 7 straight wins!

First half was fairly even, Peacehaven went ahead on ten minutes, Chalfont equalised on twenty. Things may have been different if Chalfont hadn't have missed an open goal not long after. 1-1 at half time, where we had our second and final bit of rain, first bit was at kick off. The wind was slightly relentless though.

Second half was pretty much the same, both sides having chances until with about twenty mins to go we had a 'mad' ten minutes. A Chalfont defender misjudged the speed of his opponent, allowed him to sail past, steal the ball and slot it past the keeper for 2-1. A minute or so later a Chalfont free kick on the edge of their own penalty area ended up at the feet of a Peacehaven player on the 'D' of the centre circle who sent it back toward the empty net (keeper must've taken the free kick, i wasn't really looking!), with the strong wind against him. Despite a couple of defenders racing back, the ball beat them over the line for 3-1. Again, a minute or so later, Peacehaven player through on his own chasing a ball against the keeper toward the edge of the penalty area, he slides it across before the keeper takes him out and its tapped into the net for 4-1! Chalfont appeared to have given up now and a dirty tackle in the area led to a Peacehaven penalty and 5-1. Still ten minutes to go, but no more goals.

A good 30 or so Peacehaven fans made the trip, i would imagine they, like me, were probably a bit surprised at the 'Conference priced' tea bar, the burger was nice, but £3??!! Not sure of normal league prices but wasn't expecting £6 and an extra £1 for the prog either, but aware of the FA setting minimum prices etc. Best not go on about it, or i'll have the 'explaination police' bothering me.

Other than that, a good choice of game, played in a competitive spirit, with good company, again

Thank you Rhodes. When's the new date for the Wembley v Hoddy game?

Horace - I'm assuming that it's on Tuesday as Wembley's scheduled league fixture against Chessington & Hook United has been postponed

A member from another's Forum was at Goldsdown Road yesterday, I expect Football Man was there too:

Brimsdown Rovers 3 London Colney 2 FAV

admission £5 Prog £1.50

att approx 130

Original plan of Wembley was scuppered, but all was not lost as the helpful Brimsdown sec gave the me the affirmative. Dropped of the Good wife, kids and Mother in law @ Milton Keynes (to visit my bro in law) and I was on my way

Ground not very good to be honest, Im led to believe Enfield Town have provided the arena style cover and seats and they will be moving with them when they relocate, other than that just a small area of cover opposite the stand is present.

Brimsdown started as though they were Brazil and played some sublime stuff, deservedly taking the lead. However they soon realised that they were not actually Brazil but a mid table South Midlands league side and the game became a contest (albeit not a great one)

Colney equalized with a bullet header only for the homesters to snatch the lead right on half time.

The second half was very poor and very niggly, but the contest was ended late on with a fine curling effort from Brimsdowns unfortunately named 'Jackson Gash' !

A last minute scrambled effort reduced the arrears but the result was never in doubt

Not a game that will live long in the memory, but The quite marvellous Globe public house in Dunstable en route home certainly will

The hoddy game is now tuesday night, despite the rules stating that re arranged games will be played on the original replay date agreed by both clubs, which was Wednesday.
