The coming and Going of Players

Most clubs, especially in these financial times Jab.

Billericay and AFC Hornchurch being prime examples.

thanks for that BGA makes me feel better in a funny sort of way that most clubs have the same issues and all struggle to get continuity within a team from one week to the next!

Well I won't pretend we are not one of the worst in the League, you only have to look at the number of keepers we have had, though to be fair we knew some of them were short term only.

When I were a lad, player loyalty, now its mercenaries, no one cares for the club any more, harumph harumph harumph harumph.

Seriously, it does at times feel that even through the season, important league games, are having to be used as preseason friendlies with trialists and short term emergency cover players. We really do need to get a fixed settled team as soon as possible.

Management has changed a lot since C.K. went, but I cant see that being the sole reason as we were in decline while C.K. was still with us. I believe in the interim we have had Robin Trott as player manager, Barry Ashby as manager and Terry Yorath. Both Trott and Ashby were players just starting in management, without the contacts or experience that are needed to run a succesful football club. I know that some players can go very succesfully into management, people like Martin Allen spring to mind, but I'm sure he had a few disaters before he became succesful. When it came to T.Y., obviously a very very experienced former international manager, who was maybe too experienced, managing a R.P.L. club with the standard of players in the league, is a very different experience to managing a country where you get the pick of all the players in the country and even some from outside of the country, Jack Charlton with Eire was very good at finding some tenuous link to the national team he managed.

I am hoping what we have now, a proven non league manager with experience of this league is just what the club needs right now.

Hey, I don't recall it ever being as bad as it has been for turnaround of players in 2009 ever before. Get the buggers on a contract. Also I'd like to add, although I was a critic, maybe Trott should have been given longer. When we were good under him we were very good (but then when we were bad we were pretty bad lol). It's just a thought after he was mentioned earlier. Anyway, it looks like the club are moving in a good direction.

Here at Ashford Town (Middlesex), we have ten players who have featured in the First Team this season who have either passed 100 First Team appearences or are within touching distance. Of those, one has played 650+ games, another almost 500 and two more than 250 games.

At least four of those were here before Mark Butler took over, and another three have come through the Youth ranks.

By the same token, we also have ten with less than 20 appearences, so players drifting off is not unique to you guys.

just a open question to all that read this forum.... is it the norm for players to come play a few games then leave just exclusive just to MFC or is it the same for most clubs in the Ryman prem ?

remember playing Chester in the Conference, played them at home just a few weeks later, they nearly had a new side. Thats non league.

We should do a lucky number draw, on the number of players who appear for the first team this year, can be drawn on the last game of the season.
