Go get Francis Duku

I seem to remember Francis Duku playing against us at Hartsdown Park this season, and it was commented on at the time that he looked off the pace and to be struggling with the pace of the game. I am sure its a game we won, scoring 2 or 3, and if this is the case, would he be a worthwile signing?

I know you cant judge a player by one match but as i say it was wideley commented on at the time. Also wasn't he the player involved in the barney with another player on his side after Margate scored? Do we want that sort of disharmony with all the other problems at the club?

So the guy is past his best but sitting 14 places above us with the possibility of being a league above us next season , what does that say about our lads then . Would you be saying that Michael if it were Billy Edwards i brought up did he go over the hill as well .

I have got alot of hope for the defenders we have left but they seriousley need a big man at the back to guide them and the rant Francis Duku had at his own players means there is still plenty of passion in him to do a job . If he thinks his team members are not cutting it then why not tell em cos its got them to 4th in the league , something we can only dream about at the moment .

Billy Edwards was a great servant of the club, and he did an awsome job while he was here. Unfortunately ~I feel that Billy #Edwards did keep playing past his prime, when his slower movement did cause trouble. I appreciate you are a big fan of Francis Duku Andy and I agree it is good to be passionate about his game still. I always rated the guy very highly, I just personally think that once he starts slowing down as he has, we dont have the players to cover for his mistakes. I would love to see a big experienced centreback to help our youngsters but a 28 yr old is experienced and in their prime. I notice from the kingstonian website that they also have Ian Pearce, A hero of mine, but I still think he is too old to be able to provide what we need.

Im no big fan of Francis but he is the sort of guy that could do some justice to the lads who we have to hold our defence together . Also he knows JK so there could also be a good link there . Billy was great and will always be close to the hearts of most MFC fans but this is now and this is the time we need some experience to help the lads we have .

Interesting opinions Andy-i'll stick with my thoughts that Duku is well past it.

Just to upset you further-i thought Edwards was seriously over-rated in his last 3 seasons.

I do agree that an experienced big tall defender would be ideal; but we do have Young and Haverson which looks a good combination to me;with Smith (from about mid december i reckon ) and wheatley as back up. It could be alot worse !!

Difficult to find these 'big experienced defenders'-we had one-Ben Lewis and look whats happened there !!

I do wonder whether ollie schulz could still just be an option as he seems to be struggling at conf south level and maybe needs a new challenge !!Fans and indeed Hess seem to be losing patience with him

Jerome sobers at bromley always impressed me as much as anyone

I think people on here are completely wrong about Billy Edwards - never let us down even in the Autumn of his career. How quickly some people forget! We could do with his type around now imo. Hey, talking of Duku, remember that season (I think it was one when we were in Conference South) when we had lots of bizarre named players lol.

I never said Billy Edwards let us down, I think he was a superb player all through his margate career. The only comment I had to make was he slowed down in the autumn of his career, which sometimes left us exposed. Billy Edwards gave his heart and soul to Margate all through his career, something I personally am very greatful for.

he certainly does fit the bill and while were at it get warren patmore back as well

Ha ha, Duku/Patmore: combined age of...?

Ummmm John Keister lol. Am still a bit worried that all the experienced players being mentioned here are a little too experienced. In Non League football there is still a lot of, how shall we put it, direct football played and with the veteran players you just dont have the speed to get back for a long ball bouncing behind you and a speedy striker nipping in. Admittedly, at least in the players we have, the speedy forward will miss the target a lot of the time but you are still going to ship goals to these attacks. We need an experienced defender between the ages of 26-30 who is very vocal and who our younger inexperienced players can learn from. This combination of older player with one of our young centre backs is I.M.O. the best way to get a stable defence.
