Krooner

Excellent summation Krooner, Colliers Wood really are a good footballing side who like to play it the right way, unfortunately that does not always win you games, however good luck to them for the rest of the season.

This phrase has always puzzled me. What is the definition of playing 'the right way'?

Well TRS for me it is getting the ball down and playing on the pitch provided. And that is what Colliers Wood did. Camberley were a little more direct.

Lots of discussion last night about winning and how you play between us Kroonerites. Mixed opinions too :)

Southern Combination Cup 2nd Round

Chertsey 3-2 Cobham

A much changed Cobham side (6 from Sat's game) went down by the odd goal in 5 at Chertsey in what was a good game of football. Chertsey probably deserved it overall as they did create the better chances and IMO our 16 y.o. keeper was MOM with an assured performance, however we certainly gave them a good game and could have taken it to extra time with a few half chances at the end.

For me the match hinged on a penalty awarderd to us in the first 15 min (which we missed yet again!!!!), in which our captain took the ball round the keeper and from an angle hit the ball towards goal. The only covering defender in the box slid in and depite blocking it with his legs eventually ended up stopping the ball on the line with his arm. Ref correctly awards pen but then amazingly doesn't even book the defender when by the law it was a straight red card....or has the law changed recently?!

When asked at h/t the ref said he didn't see the handball and gave the pen on the advise of the lino and because he didn't indicate a booking or sending off he didn't make one. Quite what he thought the lino indicated a pen for was beyond me and surely common sense would tell him it was for handball and therefore a red.......either that or he realised he made a BIG mistake and was just trying to cover his tracks. Eitehr way was a big turning point.

Don't know if Nut made it in the end but would be interested to hear his view if he did, or that of Kroons (although I know that will consist of "I wasn't there so can't really say").

Ah, so it's a bit like that other phrase - 'playing the game the way it should be played'!! I must find this rule book that lays down how the game 'should' be played. No problem with people having an opinion on styles of play, it's just the inferring that there is a right and a wrong way. As a disciple of the Wimbledon team of the 80's and 90's it's always irked me, tactically limited managers coming out with the tired 'i'd rather be relegated than play like that' nonsense to cover up their own failings. They often were relegated too, so they got their wish!

I quite like direct football, although you need the personnel suited to the task otherwise it can be a little unsightly!

Anyway, as you were - rant over!

T.R.S. agree with your comments,a team that can mix and match their style of play to the opposition,if as you say have the personnel to do it,will win more than they lose.Thats why Kroons never bigs his boys up,but uncanny they keep winning. So they are defo playing the game to their strengths, long may it last,I did tip em to win the title along with Mole Valley in div 1 weeks ago.

Smudge, a couple were due to knocks picked up (myself included) and unavailability, but to also give some of our squad players a run out. It was only a big game in terms of us playing a higher oppo and certainly not "such a big game". At the end of the day our priority this season is to finish in the promotion places in Div 1 and this is where we will be looking to put our strongest teams out.

No smudgey no sign of C4E. Clearly he beleived the hype from Baldy (Teffs) and Grumpy (JR). I understand we will not be seeing much of them over the December period because they both have roles in Snow White.

Camberley Town 3 v 1 Colliers Wood

1 Team looked comfortable with the ball at their feet and played some decent football. The other team won. Nuff said.

:yeahthat: I had a long chat with the manager last night who said he was pleased with how we did considering the 3 cry offs on the day! He was just pleased to fulfil the game (we only had 13 players and we have a reserve game tonight and youth tomorrow, who top their league).

We agreed that we are struggling to attract the right calibre of "adult" players to the club (we don't know why though lack of cash and money at other clubs may be a reason) and that so many players at this level seem to have have little or no loyalty. The turnover of players at CWUFC is frightening!

I have enjoyed much of the football we have played this season (we were off against Hanworth Villa on Saturday). The more "physical" sides will always have a chance against us but we will continue to play our passing game which will, no doubt, begin to suffer as the heavier pitches come along. :rain:

Finally, why is the Cambo website down?
