Team Concerns

Christmas/New Year is fast approaching and that is always a good time to gauge the level/position of a team for the end of the season. From what looked like a promising start seems to be dwindling ( granted there are injuries ) but there are good enough bench warmers to fill underperforming starters and that should be done asap starting at the back in goal up to the front. Too many mistakes all round leading to too many unnecessarily leaked goals. High hopes earlier on are fading. Come on lets get things rolling again. There is still a chance......

"starting at the back in goal"

Interesting. Rob appears to have his place guaranteed.

if players' places were guaranteed then that doesn't hold up much hope of progressing. Players must be at the top of their game all the time and have that fear of being dropped if they arn't. As top managers around the world say, "no-ones place is guaranteed."

I say too many mistakes are being made throughout the team, starting in goal unfortunately.....

I don't think anyone's place is guaranteed for every match. As for Rob, remember that Jason picked up an injury the previous Tuesday, so we couldn't have changed the keeper even if Steve wanted to.

You are right though - far too many individual errors. Perhaps we should stop changing the formation, so that players can get used to their role in the team? Personally, I favour 3-5-2, or 3-4-1-2 (more accurately 3-4-Valenti-2!).

Amen FJ, 3-4-1-2 I think will work as long as, as you say, the players put in those positions are given time to adapt as a unit. 3 at the back will also depend on the ability of Chris Wild's replacement. Time isn't one of our luxuries though.

You're both talking a lot of sense... it would be nice to see us decide on the right formation, and then sticking with it. I know that players aren't always fit / available, but we should have enough squad cover for people to come in and fit into a formation.

I'd like to think that nobody is guaranteed a start, and the side should be picked on form, but I don't think that mass changes are the way forwards either. I think we need to pick up a league win (who cares if it's a scrappy 1-0?), and hopefully move forward with some confidence from that.

Assuming that the youth & Capital League sides both play to the same formation as the first team then there should be a solid progression through the system.

A lot of good points being made and wouldn't we all love to be the manager. Maybe, but perhaps,on reflection,no.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, that's football, but I am sure everyone recognises that managers at our level have to work within the constraints of the budget they are given and the players available within their squad.

I can fully understand supporters disappointment with the recent run of results, perhaps caused by injuries to key players such as Blackburne and Wallace and the recent departure of Chris Wild. The loss of first choice players causes a lot of disruption to the team and the system played. Think Barney is talking a lot of commonsense and I agree that a league win would go a long way to putting things right.

We have some very interesting games coming up in the next few weeks. Don't think for one moment that the wheels have come off the wagon. We have the nucleus of a good team and we have recently signed a couple more quality players. Am confident Steve & Del will get it right sooner than later.

Completely agree with littlehampton on this one.Lots of us probably think we would be good Managers - but we're not that's the whole point. I have seen both Steve & Del getting their hands dirty and going the extra mile for their players and this being reciprocated as well. Give these guys a break and do what supporters should be doing - exactly what it says on the can!!
