Chenns Going Nowhere

In response to the Gavin Smith thread I have been asked to post the following:-

Michael Chennells is not leaving Windsor & Eton FC.

There have been no approaches made for him and no club has been contacted to take on loan, trial or transfer.

Keith has been open in the papers that he was always looking for another another striker even after signing Vistor Osobu.

Hopefully this clears up any fears supporters have of him leaving the club.

Malc ... oops.. apologies...probably my fault!

In all fairness I did put in the disclaimer that it was just a thought nothing more!

When Woody posted the link to the Observer i did think perhaps there was a lesson in there about how quickly a thought for discussion becomes gossip..then rumour .. then fact... :451:

I guess don't underestimate the power of "argumentum ad populum"...

I think it would take a lot to lure Chenns away from Windsor. I've interviewed him several times for the programme and he has a genuine affinity for the club. Of course he wants to play as high a level as possible, and if that opportunity arose I'm sure he would grasp it. But I know he has some burning ambitions at Windsor, he desperately wants to break the 100 goal barrier for the club, which isn't far away and he also wants to achieve the title this year. He has a lot of loyalty towards Windsor as shown by his three/four years at the club and the speed at which he signs contract extensions rather than holding out to see what other clubs may offer proves that, when someone so young could easily have been tempted away by more money. I honestly don't think there is anything to worry about in terms of him moving on.

What Gavin's presence does - hopefully - mean for Chenns is that in the first time in said 3-4 years we can actually rest the poor guy, and still play two forwards who are likely to score... AND have someone on the bench to relieve either or add a different threat.

What it means for the other teams in the division is that we're likely to be really hard to prevent from scoring. Let's face it, with the players we had already, Chenns and Victor both demand two markers (because otherwise either might slip one and score), plus Rico seems to be finding his feet now (and goals like his last will be almost impossible to predict/stop). Plus, although I think he's going to be most nervous for his place, Wallo used to score more when the pressure was off and IMO could create well for any of the others...

Meanwhile my only grouse about the midfield is that we've got too many good players in it, so it seems a shame when any of them isn't playing, and likewise at wing-back I love the threats from both sides.

IMO the only player not meeting his usual standards at the moment is Butler: I wonder if he's carrying an injury, or if it's just that all the rest of the team is so much younger now and he's suffering by comparison, but I don't think he's having such a good season. And even then he's mostly a fine player; still, I would like to have cover for him (rather than risking the 3-5-2 every week...).

Dan I have to disagree with you about Butler. He at times has been our best player on the pitch and last Saturday's game showed that perfectly. He also does a good job of pushing forward when neccessary. I honestly can't say that there are any bad players in the squad now. Although I wish Bruce and Joe would be a bit more positive going forward.

I know I have given Joe alot of stick in the past but when he started he was steaming down that wing putting some wonderful crosses in. These days though his lack of confidence has stopped him from doing that. I also think this has hindered him getting injured alot as he doesn't go in 100% on challenges and usually come off worse.

Bruce I think is a great player and fill the Coyne roll quite well but sometimes he is so frustrating. His body movement on the ball is great and he shugs of most players but some of his distribution is questionable.

As for Chenns I never once thought he would go even with the influx of forwards. He is a key player and long may he reign and if a higher level of team does eventually come in for him I say good luck.

Humpty, I have to disagree about Joe! Since he has come back into the team he has given us the much needed balance on the left hand side and he and Ryan work so well together. Yes he may come off worse in challenges, but he's a left winger, he's not a defender and his job is to go forward. At the top level of football which left wingers are strong tacklers? Ryan Giggs isn't in the Man U side to defend, Ronaldo isn't in the Real Madrid side to tackle, and so on. Ryan (the left back) is there for the challenges, but having said that I wouldn't say he doesn't go in 100%, his defensive play has improved considerably under Scotty's guidance. It may not be tackling but his closing down of players etc has been excellent. And when Joe get's a run of game his confidence grows and grows. My take is when you take him out of the team we don't have the balance and the side looks slightly unstable, when he's in the side we have much better all round balance and the side perform so much better.

Smithson what did Joe do to you!? You've always had different views to everyone else about him! Did a stray cross of his hit you!?

100% agree with Geggy. Hope his injury isnt too bad.

This is just my opinion not gospel as has Geggy put his opinion. We do not all agree on things and this is what football is all about.

I have no problem with Joe and I think he is a good bloke. I just wish he was like he was when he joined us. Now-a-days I do not think he is the same player.

I would say that Joe is a better player than he has ever been at Windsor, his defensive game is a lot stronger, his crossing is better and he thinks a lot more about what he needs to do within the team. He hass faults but he is playing at Div 1 Southern League level, it is doubtful he is going to be perfect. he is also playing in a very strong team and any faults are therefore emphasised.

I would have to disagree humpty, he has clearly made a difference the past few games when he has started. There is no-one in our squad who you would rather have there and I have seen no-one in this division I would drop him for either.

I would agree with you on Butts though, he has given us a little something extra at corners and free kicks, but is age starting to catch him up, he can look a bit flat footed occassionally, but with Fagan there it doesn't really matter at this level.

But as you say, just an opinion, and we all have them eh?

I agree, I think Joe has improved since he joined us - I think his crossing under pressure now is often superb, whereas at first he would often try and avoid the tackle and so miss the chance of a clear cross. He might be fractionally slower (or maybe just in comparison as we've so many fast players now!) but he's a lot more effective. I think we're very lucky at this level to have such strong players as him & Ryan on the left.

I do agree with Humpty on one thing - what Joe lacks sometimes is the confidence in his own skills, often he could take it closer to goal himself and have a shot, but his instinct most often seems to be to pass it to the strikers. But there are worse faults to have... we've seen selfish wingers in the past, not to mention those who couldn't cross well even if they did try...
