CIFC 2-3 Waltham Abbey

Rather than get abuse on Canvey's "official social network" for stating a valid opinion that was shared by many fans during yesterday's game, I thought I'd post here, even if it is to myself!

Thought first-half Canvey fully deserved to be ahead by the two goals and could've scored at least two more but for some good saves by their Keeper. James Russell was rarely tested but when he was called upon he managed to pull of some acrobatics to deny Abbey three good efforts. Canvey's defence held firm, reducing Abbey to shots from distance and the two up top didn't stop running. Rowe was unlucky not to get two of his own and Hallett did well to keep his composure for his goal. Cohen had a bit of luck for the freekick, but they all count

Abbey sneaked a sloppy goal deep into first-half stoppage time with a free header and it seemed Canvey fielded a totally different side for the second-half. I don't know what was said during the team-talk, but Canvey came out content to defend a one goal lead for 45 minutes, which has spelt disaster in the past and it was no suprise that Abbey were allowed to get back into the game.

Abbey's second goal came from a free-kick on their own penalty spot! The ball was sent out wide down Abbey's left then after a few passes found itself being easily poked into the net. Their third was an almost exact repeat of their first, free-header at the near-post, again down their left.

It seemed to me as the second-half wore on Abbey became more and more up for it whilst although Canvey were creating chances of their own, only Cohen hitting the post could be classed as a real effort and the run Rowe made to set the effort up deserved the goal on it's own. Abbey rarely let Canvey in their penalty area during the second half and then countered on the break to get their goals. They also used had a secret weapon - How to use substitutions effectively, making two shortly either side of the hour mark. Canvey appeared to be content with leaving it till the final ten minutes and losing to change anything, basically shooting themselves in the foot with time running out to get anything out of the game. Three up front and changing formation is fine, but why wait until eight minutes to go and conceeding three goals to do it?!

Man of the Match for me was a toss up between Rowe and Hallett, both ran their defence ragged so Hallett edged it by actually getting on the score-sheet. Cohen was also in contention for much of the game, but like the rest of the team fissled out towards the end.

I don't mind losing to a better team, but the manner of some of our recent defeats have been almost embarrassing, even predictable. As much as I look at the stats on the Isthmian Fans site, Canvey currently can't get any higher than ninth in the form guide, (last eight home games) and they're actually placed 17th over the last six games played so take from that what you will.

MUST HAVE BEEN BANNED FROM CLUB YELLOW AS I CANT EVEN LOG IN!?

As for the game well it was shocking! To loose to a team like that at home is unforgivable.Weve conceded 10 goals in our last 3 games which is worrying. But what is more worrying is that the last 3 games have been against POOR sides in aveley, braintree reserves and waltham abbey! What happens when we play the top sides like dartford, carshalton and tonbridge?

At the start of the season our defense was rock solid and we hardly conceded any goals, with a few clean sheets aswell! So what has changed? where was chris moore on saturday? Why hasnt ben patten been playing the last few weeks? The last 2 games hes been an unused sub! We need to get back to the sucessfull back four we played with at the start of the season! Especially moore and patten at centre half, that is crucial! Richard halle is just not playing well at the moment,he doesnt seem to be FIT ENOUGH!

A s the saying goes stats don lie. This season our 3 centre halves have started 11 games each

......... P W D L

moore 11 5 2 4

patten 11 6 3 2

halle 11 3 1 7

Pretty conclusive stats!

The 2 full backs westy and everett have been virtual ever presents as has the keeper james russell.

Your not banned from clubyellow, but maybe you two should confine your drivel to here, again a lot of rubbish spouted about something neither of you know or understand. Real supporters back their club in public and use their criticism constructively, oh well you pay your money I suppose that entitles to hurl peronal abuse at people that work their nuts off for our club

Stick to championship manager at least you can have control of that.

In reality it seems you are the one trying to control what people think and say. What are you afraid of? People who have paid to watch their team having an opinion? Whatever next!

You don't seem to have bought into the concept that football is all about opinions, whether you share or like them or not. The sharing of those is what a forum is about surely? Unless of course you truly believe that faith is blind.

I long ago realised that supporters were not expected to post their opinions on this forum, we are to quietly acquiesce with whatever happens, discussions on results, team selection, tactics etc is frowned upon, even attacked - especially when we lose, which has been happening frequently in recent weeks.

This is a 'forum', a place where fans are supposed to be able to discuss their team and what is happening on the pitch, to do so is not disloyalty - it is an exercise in freedom of speech, something we seem to enjoy less of now than in the past.

As for Matt's posts? I have often disagreed with him, but i respect his right to an opinion AND his right to express it.

Me? I gave up long ago.....

It seems that those who would stifle opinion with kiss the badge platitudes find it easier to do that than trying to persuade through debate. People like that kill forums - but then perhaps that is their agenda.

Hence why posts on Club Yellow are being deleted by Club Officials and as such losing regular posters.

First healthy criricism and debate is good, nobody stifles anyone on here except Matt, Ian or Glen.

Second the only comments deleted on clubyellow were a thread that was triggered by personal comments about an individual who had no right to reply.

The comments based on knowledge and understanding of the game are sometimes entertaining and insightful, my only issues is with people who challenge difficult decisions on here when they do not know why the decisions were made.

The decision when to swap players is more than just who is on the bench, sometimes we have to play players who are unwell (Richard H last week) as our squad is so small, the manager does not want the opposition to know certain things that may give them an advantage. We have been carrying a lot of injuries and illnesses, we even tried to get the Aveley game called off because so many were ill yet they played through it because we were not allowed call it off, yet they were criticised.

I like healthy debate especially when people like Pabird who has some tactical astuteness and makes a positive criticism of our performance based on knowledge of football, I dont like snipes and digs at individuals who have no right to reply.

I dont understand how you can judge my football credentials? Although i obviously dont play now,i once did to a very good level i might add.Now i follow canvey and will carry on to do so whatever happens! Where have i 'spouted' rubbish? and 'hurled' abuse? I thought i got my point of view across and then backed it up with FACTS! Stats dont lie.

The banning and heckling of users on club yellow is exactly why its going down the pan! People should be allowed to express their views! We pay our money to follow the club.

If our best back four/three are fit and well they play, like I said Richard H played with the flu maybe we should have phoned the opposition and told them.

Do you think we put a fit Ben on the bench with Richard carrying an illness.

If the club aren't prepared to share information with the fans then they have to accept comments based on what is known. If the squad is too small shouldn't it be increased - even if on a temporary basis to overcome illness or suspension problems? After all, clubs regularly take players on loan or dual sign. You see there are more points that can be debated quite easily and open the discussion to all without the need for door slamming.

By seemingly elevating yourself to the position of Tzar on whose posts are tactically valid and whose are not on a forum, you are perhaps missing the point of sharing opinions, even if you are the Tony Burman of Fans Focus - and I humbly suggest that you may not be. Debate the issues, don't club people with a stick because they don't tow your own percieved line, especially when you appear to have some facts that they aren't allowed to. The initial posts on this thread seemed perfectly reasonable as opinions, even if you disagreed with them. By now saying what you have at least you are entering into the spirit of sharing. Isn't that healthier?

Ok so richard had flu last week, has he had flu all this season? I didnt say he was unfit after watching one game! I came to that conclusion over the course of the 11 games hes played.Hes played 11 games of which we have lost 7! And yet ben patten has been on the bench the last 3 games as an unused sub! weve conceded 10 goals in those last 3 games! If patten is injured/ill and unable to play, whats he doing on the bench!? Towards the end of last season i thought halle was excellent in a struggling team at the time. But he looks like hes put on a extra stone since.

Nobody is banned from Club Yellow, and we (I, at least) encourage healthy debate...

Just because you haven't played or managed football at a high level you are still entitled to an opinion - I'm sure you'd be allowed to have an opinion if it was a good one!
