50th ANNIVERSARY 7TH NOVEMBER HASTINGS AWAY

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow is my 50th anniversary of watching the Gate.

My first game was Exeter City reserves at home ( thank goodness) and we won 1-0 7th November 1959. mild and dry

I have written an article for the programme next week entitled win lose or draw. It is not quite that straight forward.

I can still stand in the exact spot at Margate as i did on that memorable afternoon way back then. Not much of the ground is the same.

These clips don't feature in my short memoirs so something to stir the memory.

BEST GOALKEEPER BRIAN HUHES

BEST DEFENDER HAS TO BE BILLY (WE DON'T CARE GOT NO HAIR) EDWARDS

BEST MIDFIELDER PHIL HANDFORD

BEST ATTACKER GOT TO BE PHIL AMATO BUT ALAN BLACKBURN COMES CLOSE

BEST SUB DAVIE JARMAN

BEST FA CUP GAME PETERBOROUGH UNITED. IF YOU WERE THERE YOU KNEW WHY. BESIEGED THEIR GOAL FOR 45 MINS MISSED PENALTY AND MILLINGTON PLAYED LIKE GORDEN BANKS.

BEST LEAGUE WIN RAMSGATE 1966 AFTER BEING 4-1 DOWN AT THE BREAK.

BEST ATTENDANCE AT HOME SPURS 14000

WORST ATTENDANCE I'VE BEEN AT TO SEE ANY MARGATE TEAM PLAY. LAST WEEK AT VCD. JUST 12 YES 12

FOR THOSE WHO GO TO HASTINGS YOU CAN (IF YOUR UNLUCKY) RECEIVE SOME ANNIVERSARY CAKE BAKED MY ME.., BLUE ICING OF COURSE.

UP THE GLORIUS GATE. ALSO AND MANY , MANY THANKS TO THOSE SUPPORTERS WHO CARTED ME AROUND THE GROUNDS BEFORE 1982 JOHN VEHID PARTICULARLY, (NOW safety officer at the opposition club.)

Thanks also to JJ, Gary Hyde, Steve Ball, Jeff Twice Keith Lewis Bodyform Pete Budding Dave Miles Porka Paul Bates Ganderton Boy Neil Wyatt and many others for their support, company and enthusiam for our great club(and for putting up with my moaning)

UP THE GATE!!!!

When i see John Vahid tomoz GP (asuming he be at our game), i mention this post to him, not sure if he reads your forum anyways,... to support a club for 50 years is real dedication, esp a non league club, well done :pub: .

This pales into insignificance my 25th anniversary that passed on the 27th of last month. Beat Chatham 4-2 that day with Lennie Lee amongst the goals with a scissor kick from the edge of the box!
