Bye Bye Drivetime

Recommended Posts

I did mention Drunk Drivetime at one point.

Somebody just took over, we were listening in the car and it was "Colin and Tony had to leave suddendly", what both of us got a duel tradegy that meant we had to go with 30 mins left - doh!!!

And yes it was half a hour of Essex travel.

The DJ's say the weather on that station every few minutes, people who talk about the weather genrally don't have anything to say.

Looks like I will have to set the record straight.

It wasn't due to your content - it was due to your lack of content. You were asked to leave because you couldn't stick to the station rules about what goes out when, and didn't want to talk to me to put it right. If you didn't want to do drivetime, why did you volunteer? You could have stuck to the Hangover Show and I could have got someone who wanted to do it and we all would have been happy.

On your last show you did nothing but moan about having to do local stuff, and then talk about St Albans (sure most people here will like that), but you have to admit that sounds crap on a Brentwood station. I would have loved to have been there to remove you personally, I just couldn't get there in time (what a shame eh).

We don't play Dire Straits/Phil Collins/Bruce Springsteen, in fact I personally like a lot of Colin and Tony's music, except Bongwater. We don't do half an hour of travel, that's just stupid.

See you at an Abdou show in the near future no doubt Colin, let's hope I get a chance to stab you before you stab me.

What's wrong with Bongwater? I rather like "Dazed And Chinese".

So, what we're saying here is that Mr Thorns & Mr De La Fou weren't suitable for a drivetime audience in Essex? I refuse to accept the possibility that this could be true. Whilst I didn't actually ever listen to the Phoenix Drivetime show (I prefer Virgin Radio at the moment, as it goes), I have to say that anybody who drives from Hertfordshire to Brentwood to work unpaid on some 2 bit radio station deserves a little better treatment than to be sacked during a show. Was that last half-an-hour going to make the crucial difference to your sponsorship, advertising revenues, or audience figures? Shoddy, quite frankly.

Hi Colin

Have to say that I like you and Tony personally but you have totally missed the point here...

1. I wasn't even aware that you were attempting a comedy show. I would have thought that involved being funny, not just "wacky" and aiming jokes at your mates for three hours. Sorry, but it's true. To claim to be "too funny" is "too sad".

2. Your idea was to do the hangover show at drivetime, two entirely different shows. To my knowledge you were advised to stick to the format but played the naughty boys line a tad to far to be funny.

3. It was very big of you to threaten people on a chat board.

4. Considering you were on-air, every weekday for three weeks with, what you claim, was such an excellent show, the public outcry one might have expected didn't materialise. Your fanclub must be a dedicated bunch to need your plea to "send your emails asking where we are". And the alias emails we did receive from a certain persons IP address.. you know what? THAT bit made us laugh!

I genuinely wish you the best of luck with your next project guys but it's always best to look at your own shortfalls before pointing the finger.

Brownie

I think our hangover show is still safe though (well it better be)

Well, is it?

(And call me a conspiracy theorist here, but isn't it just a teensy bit coincidental that people whom I assume are employees or fellow volunteers of Phoenix FM are on the board posting messages about a subject that hadn't been looked at on here for a few days on the weekend when everybody, but everybody, knows he's at Glastonbury and can't respond for a couple of days?)

Brownie, why would any DJ worth their salt be interested in playing the same **** that gets played on every other mainstream station. The best are those who work to their own agenda. Can't imagine Peelie being told to play more Misteeq by his producer.

Good point but ..

1. We do actually have a lot of diverse programs, that's why Colin and Tony ended up with us in the first place

2. Playing specific music in the show that they volunteered to do was part of the deal, and to be fair it was mostly done. The issue was with not doing things that we had agreed would be done. If I turned up to a job, paid or not, and tried to do what the hell I wanted instead of what I had agreed to do, I would expect the sack too

3. Peelie's producer doesn't actually have to sell the station, they have a remit to play what they like, they don't have to find thousands of pounds to go on air (we do)

4. I neither know nor care where Colin is, and I don't think the Hangover Show is very safe either, but I admire Colin's chutzpah for thinking it was
