Soccer: Billericay snap up John and Trenkel

New Billericay Town boss Justin Edinburgh has brought some major summer cheer to fans of the New Lodge club by announcing his first signings.

Highly-experienced goalkeeper Jerome John, who cleaned up on all the Billericay player of the year awards last term, has been persuaded to sign a new deal after coming to the end of his contract.

And ex-Spurs star Edinburgh has also snapped up the services of Great Wakering Rovers' leading scorer in the 2002/03 campaign Dan Trenkel.

Both players have signed one-year contracts and Edinburgh admitted: "I'm delighted that both players have decided to join us."

Billericay had the second best defensive record behind champions Aldershot in the Ryman Premier last season and Edinburgh said: "Jerome kept 19 clean sheets and if he can do that again we'll be well happy. I certainly didn't want to lose a goalkeeper of his calibre."

Trenkel has made a big name for himself at Division One North side Wakering over the past two terms and even attracted the attention of Southend United, who gave him a trial, at one stage.

Said Edinburgh: "Dan is only 20 years old and scored 23 goals last season -- even though most of his appearances were in midfield rather than as an out and out striker.

"Sure he's stepping up a level to Premier now, but it's very much part of my plans here to try and give outstanding young talent a chance and he fits that bill perfectly."

I once said to JJ whilst he was warming up before a game that he would be one player that would get a standing ovation "if" he left us and played against us....Well It aint gonna happen yet!! yippeee. Also think credit must go to Justin for persuading JJ to sign again for us...And also huge credit to JJ for staying loyal to the cause....My son wears JJ'S shirt that he gave him every time he has football training, and he will be well pleased with this news....GREAT NEWS.

Trenkel will be meaning it!

Trenks told me as soon as he arrived Tuesday Mr chairman asked who is mean it Mick and he said who it was.

My apologies mr chairman if i p1ssed you off at all by letting the cat out of the bag early.

I think i should work for a tabloid newspaper.

Look forward to coming over to watch some day when i havent got a game!

good news on two fronts really, great to hear we'll still have the best keeper in the league and secondly we may actually score some goals from midfield which i feel we desperately lacked when we sold martin carthy. towards the end of the season it really didn't look as if we were going to score, hopefully this will change for next season so that we're not really on jj being our attacking force aswell (remember ford away!!!)

Not as yet..... The only games I'm aware of are the ones mentioned elsewhere - Wakering, E.Thurrock and Orient. Unfortunately with people on holiday etc it's not always easy to get info at this time of year - the fixtures will be on the site as soon as i have them!

Roughly how many do you get at a home game?

Now there's a question!
Last season we averaged a little over 400, although attendances were some way below that in march-april when we lost 10 on the spin and couldn't buy a goal, let alone a point!

This coming season hopefully we'll be able to improve on that average - I know from talking to a few people that there's quite a number of people who weren't enjoying watching BTFC with Gary as manager who will be intending to go to a lot more games this coming season!

Great to hear that jj is staying!! Best keeper in the league, justin must of talked him into staying. Well done justin. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

The ex Billericay legend has to be Joe Baker, surely a few more signings will be coming within the next few weeks. Most probably will not be offered contracts until they have impressed in pre season. Therefor he can not name people who are coming down incase they are snatched away by other clubs. Has there been any mention of an ex spurs reserve player joining??!! Iv herad that someone from them is joining us for pre season! Has any one else who this rumour?
