Gary and I took in the cup game at VCD. We should have taken in the whole game but both got there too late. We were 2-0 down when I arrived and apart from about five mins. completely dominated the game. Got a goal back but missed other chances and lost 2-1. Don't know the players names only two had played first team football.

Attendance 12 yes 12 five or six Margate fans. Lovely surface and playing conditions.

Enjoyable game, well the half we saw as Geoff said got there late. 2-0 down at half time but Margate played some decent football and certainly looked the better side. Well worth going to see.

Good to see you there guys.

How did we lose this one?

To start with the guys had to change the system, They have to play the same one as the 1st team squad, a midfield diamond. In the first 1/2 it took time to get into it, in fact they didn't fully. VCD scored twice, the first was sloppy and the second was a combination of a bad dodgy back pass and a keeper who is not mobile enough.

We should have gone in at 2-1, we scored a perfectly good goal, in fact a cracker but, the ref in is infinite wisdom gave off side.

At half time Phil Fennel kept the lads out on the pitch, coaching them on the new system and no doubt one or 2 bollockings.

Second half saw the Gate take control, playing some cracking football, as Geoff says, with the exception of 5 minutes we completely dominated. We brought it back to 2-1.

The lads on the bus home asked me 2 questions, 1) what did I think, 2) who was man of the Match.

1) The lads, especially the more senior ones need to take more responsibility, and realise they have first team football in their grasp. To get first team football they have to step up their games week on week and dominate there positions. Have confidence in their abilities and perform. They have the talent, find the will.

2)The man of the match.

This is a difficult one. Forget the first half. The second half I Should give it to the lot but, I will give it to Phil Fennel for his half time Phil Brown style team talk.

See you at Hastings Geoff(who is celebrating 50 years as a Gate supporter on that very day) and Gary(Drummer).

Seems to fit in with the playing staff thogh-and gets healey in his 'correct ' position. (to use a naff football cliche-in the hole )

Keister (or morris)

Wilson Stubbs

Healey.

Now we have 2 proper central midfield players helping each other-watch Wayne wilsons game improve to last seasons standard.

Looks good to me.

(as i posted previously-for all of his good work-had TY started to lose the plot when for a couple of games he had healey and wilson playing out wide ?)
