Where's the Crowds?

Recommended Posts

Just wondered what other people's opinions were on crowd figures at this level of football, and if clubs do enough to get more people through the gates.

Noticed in the UCL Prem that St Neots have an average figure at home games this season 0f 265, their highest gate this term to date being 435, for a League game.

Aylesbury had 682 for their FA Cup game last week but that was sandwiched between figures of 80 and 71, last season Chalfont St Peter had 1,185 for their Vase Semi-final but that figure was sandwiched between two gates of 65.

Not knocking these clubs but as a whole do we all suffer these days from the so called can't be a***d armchair fans, are we competing with too many shopping centres, do clubs charge too much for entry (behave), are clubs doing there bit with the local community, just a thought as to why so many of us can't pull in good crowds for what is an enjoyable standard of football.

Our club doesn't charge an entry fee, just a quid for a programme which is optional, so where are our fans, we can't ever hit a 100 even in a local derby so maybe as a club we need to address this, but what are people's opinions and as clubs can we do more to attract bigger gates to what is at times a beautiful game to watch.

Maybe you could have a promotion day where you pay people £1 to come in??? (don't forget to move your turnstyles next to the cafe with the smell of fresh coffee and bacon sarnis)

Its difficult to get people through the gates these days its all about keeping them intrested once they are in. Everyone needs to go away feeling they have got their moneys' worth.

Another idea to try would be special rates for anyone who lives within a certain distance of the ground - I bet some folk don't even know that local football is played within the area and certainly don't know the standard on show.

Willo, we ain't even got turnstiles, we're one of the few that charge f**k all for entry and even that ain't good enough.

Around these areas it's all about the Dons, mind u with a population of 200k plus even the Dons struggle with gates, Sainsbury's, Asda, Tesco, Ikea must have something good going for them coz I'm damned where the locals are on football days.

Like you say though maybe we need a few fresh faces on the committee to see if we can't try to promote ourselves.

I think Royston certainly promoted their club a couple of seasons back so sometimes it is up to the club to sell itself.

And as for location NB isn't the easiest place to find in Milton Keynes, mind you everyone knows where Stony Stratford is up here but they suffer even worse than us, might be though that after a 2 mile walk from the car park to the pitch they have the audacity to charge you at least 4 quid for your efforts, a total of an 8 mile walk if you go for h/t refreshments and your covered knee deep in mud....f**k that.

Ref Off Ref - According to the Mitoo site this is the current Premier Division Attendance league table with Royston Town unsurprisingly way out in front, Kingsbury London Tigers have only played four home games so in theory Kentish Town are bottom which is poor:

Hatfield Town - 778

Tring Athletic - 773

Dunstable Town - 638

Chalfont St Peter - 631

Hertford Town - 612

Langford - 610

Harefield United - 601

Aylesbury - 574

Broxbourne Borough - 574

Welwyn Garden City - 542

Colney Heath - 529

Oxhey Jets - 477

Biggleswade United - 444

Haringey Borough - 407

Hanwell Town - 384

Hillingdon Borough - 375

Brimsdown Rovers - 360

St Margaretsbury - 318

Leverstock Green - 317

Kentish Town - 236

Kingsbury London Tigers - 133

Still a few more than Tik Tok this season. Our trouble is we are a fair distance from our local area to attract people to come along and to get the local peeps to come along have had no joy.
