Wednesday 28 October

Division One Cup 2nd Round

7 0 AFC Dunstable v Stony Stratford Town

A brief report from another's Forum:

Spartan South Midlands League Division 1 Cup 2nd. Rnd.

AFC Dunstable 7 Stony Stratford Town 0 (att.32 h/c)

Adm. £4 Prog. £1

After last night's 'bonkers' game at Cockfosters, I thought with just 1 position seperating these 2 sides in the league this would be a more routine affair. Wrong. Dunstable were rampant and had the game won in 14 minutes, by which time they were 3 ahead. Further goals on 19,57,75 and 82 minutes. They even had the luxury of fielding a how can I put it nicely - 'large' keeper who was tested just twice.

On a personal note pleased with my 5th. 7-0 of this season.

A report from the another Forum, were any Forum members at Chalk Lane last night:

Another one for Cockfosters v Hoddesdon, 2 trips to Chalk Lane for me this season have ended 6-3, 3-6 (more like tennis?). Crazy game, brilliant covering tackle from a Hoddesdon defender stopped them going 1-0 down in the first minute, but they were 4-0 up after 30 (the second a poor piece of refereeing, the fourth a goalkeepers howler). Cockfosters then had a cast-iron penalty not given, pulled one back on 45 mins, Hoddesdon then danced round the keeper straight from the re-start but the official blew for half-time before they could score! 'Fosters much better in the second half, pulled back to 3-4 but lost two more goals right at the end (the killer 5th from a very harsh free kick). Although 'Fosters were unfortunate with some refereeing decisions, Hoddesdon's forwards were generally too nippy for the home defence and they deseved the win.

Hadley 0. Bedford 0 aet. Hadley won 4-1 on pens.

That puts 7 clubs through to the Quarter Finals, Crawley Green are yet to play a game in the competition, does this mean they get a straight bye into the Q/F's, as there are 21 clubs in the division and if this is the case surely there should have been a Preliminary Round before Round 1, anyone know more on this?

RoR - I think that the draw was made before the withdrawal of Winslow United, when there were 22 clubs - so 6 matches in the first round takes 6 clubs to the second round to join the 10 clubs with byes. I think that Amersham Town got a walkover in Round 1. Crawley Green are not the only team yet to play in Round 2.

Argh, good thinking Horace, forgot about Winslow, actually did go down the whole list of clubs who had played in Round 1 and 2 and Crawley Green were the only absenties, but then as you say the withdrawal of Winslow probably is spot on, thanks for the info mate, LOL we got Crawley Green this weekend, saves me saying something out of turn LOL.

4 2 Broxbourne Borough v Kentish Town

Attendance 32

Red Robbo was at this one on Tuesday, no surprise to see who scored Broxbourne's fourth goal:

Broxbourne Borough (1) 4 v 2 (1) Kentish Town

The Dudley Latham Memeorial Cup (SSML Premier Division Cup)

Admission £6 incl a 60pp programme (a good read), Tea 70p

Attendance 32 (official)

A very entertaining game this one with Kentish Town taking the lead from the penalty spot.

All square at 1-1 at half time. In the second half Broxbourne pulled away to a 3-1 lead with the visitors pulling a goal back with 14 minutes to go. The threat of possible Extra time was averted when Bradley Drisdale scored a fourth goal for the Boro with 4 minutes left.

Football Man - Nothing changes does it, an early check of the Board at home and a rare post before you get off to work. So you were at Goffs Lane on Tuesday, did you notice the Kentish Town Management and Committee looking like death warmed up as the Club pulled out of a Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League game on Wednesday at very short notice citing illness of the Management and some players as their excuse.

Tommy - You should know better than anyone, having been with the Club since the tender age of thirteen, that everything Kentish Town do is on a wing and a prayer

Rhodes as you well know it is not the first team that are struggling with illness and when I arrived at Broxboune at 9.00pm I can assure you I was not feelng under the weather at all. Not quite sure how Football Man would know if one of our youth teams and their management are suffering with ill health at the moment though.

Good to see you again Football Man sorry didnt get time to have a chat again the other night ........ found our last conversation very interesting.

Well Tokyngton Manor will be claiming the points as 24 hours notice is simply not good enough just because the Management Team and one or two players had runny noses, alegedly, what was wrong with Rak taking the game with his experience at Youth level.

That was our clubhouse steward, ex Dunstable Town keeper and county darts legend Paul Orchard. He retired last Friday and was talked out of retirement by Wednesday. He has an on-going bet with our keeper, Paul Taylor, on clean sheets and will no doubt be waiting to collect his winnings from Wednesday.
