The gateman said the programmes were held up in traffic – never knew that programmes could drive. Debut for Jamie Dormer. Urchins kicked towards the garage end of the ground, and stormed upfield in the first minute, when an excellent ball from Reece Prestedge saw Wayne Gray clear and heading goalwards. Sam Tanner rushed out of his area and Wayne was ignominiously flattened. There was only one possible decision, a red card, with less than sixty seconds gone. The referee did what all referees at this level would do – he gave a goal kick and left Wayne to be treated on the pitch. Was he influenced by the home crowd? Doubtful as there were none. Urchins continued to play the ball about, Billy Coyne sending over a good cross, but Jackman could not turn to get his shot in. The first goal appeared to have come when Jamie Dormer started the move which led to Wayne Gray again racing goalwards, and appearing to be held back continuously. Wayne carried on and slipped the ball into the net, but the player who tackled him lay on the ground, and the referee signalled for something, but it was not the goal which everyone was expecting. On came the trainer, on came Dicky Harper, and off went the players. Time seven minutes and 50 seconds. The match was abandoned in the 29th minute, the paramedic arrived on 32 minutes and the ambulance came five minutes later. By this time there was a good deal of ground mist, illuminated nicely by the yellow floodlights. The mist thickened up noticeably whilst the ambulance was on the pitch. Broken ankle was the initial diagnosis, but the player could not be moved onto the stretcher. The ambulance was still on the pitch an hour after the incident occurred. A home official came around offering spectators their money back but there were few takers. No new date as yet.
