Tuesday 27th Result

Decent game to watch, Witham hit the woodwork three times and Bridge were harshly ruled offside a couple of times.

Enjoyable watch

Felt we were unlucky to lose as you say we hit the woodwork 3 times, plus numerous other occassions where they cleared off the goal line. Result apart was an enjoyable game and proud of our lads for the effort they put in last night, especially after the lack of attacking in recent games.

Witham 9 3 0 6 15 22 -7 9

Barking 6 2 1 3 5 8 -3 7

Bowers & Pitsea 6 2 0 4 9 9 +0 6

London APSA 6 2 0 4 5 7 -2 6

Eton Manor 7 1 2 4 12 15 -3 5

Clapton 6 1 1 4 6 17 -11 4

Mauritius Sports Association 8 0 1 7 11 25 -14 1

As I said in a different thread, you shiould be more worried about your own team than Stansted losing their unbeaten record.

7th from bottom with every team below having games in hand, leaking goals and this from a team with probably one of the best budgets in the league ( £700 per week )I heard and at the start of the season giving it large about how they were going straight back up.

However as the great Corporal Jones used to say " DONT PANIC".

You should learn from teams like Burnham good set up good team and just go about there job quietly and efficiently.

The difference is mate. When we lose i don't use the old tired excuse of blaming the referee unlike Stansted and when we draw we applaud it unlike your number 2, who acted like someone had taken away his comfort blanket. Kicking and punching panels as he walked down the tunnell. What a man he was

Please show us (this has to be the number two) where anyone from Witham has given it big that we will go straight back up. If you go on the Witham forum i predicted third behind Tiptree & Enfield. Correct me if i am wrong, but 3rd don't go up. FatCat also put how it would take time to settle in and Claret Rebel. Trying to paint us as the big boys giving it large won't wash. No one is panicking - i congratulated the lads for the effort they put in last night.

Did you get fined for punching the advertizing hoardings?.

Some interesting thoughts;

1- What's the future of the ESL League.

2- Will the small clubs of the ESL League survive another hard season.

3- Are we any near to have a lower division and therefore relegation.

4- Will the small clubs of the ESL League be able to compete one day.

5- What's the visibility of the big clubs going forward.

6- Is there any hope with the referees improving their standars.

7- How many teams from the Rayman League were promoted from the ESL.

8- Who will be bottom of the league in April 2010.

I was in attendence last night and I really enjoyed myself. The number 4 for Hullbridge impressed me (anyone know his name?). Some good goals and goal line clearances. The woodwork was rattled a few times.

All in all a deserved Hullbridge victory. If only Witham could defend......monkey.gif

1- What's the future of the ESL League.

I think “uncertain” is the best that anyone can say. The league will survive I am sure of that, but as the FA National Game Board are committed to reducing the number of step 5 leagues to 12 nationwide (I think there are currently 18), its status at step 5 is less secure. There was a strong rumour doing the rounds 12 months ago that they were considering merging the ESL with the Kent League and then create a Premier Division and a First Division, but I think the travelling has put them off that idea.

2- Will the small clubs of the ESL League survive another hard season.

I certainly hope so. Clapton seems a more organised ship this year, Mauritius will play nice football and I think there is a strong will to keep that club going. The likes of Hullbridge and Apsa have had some decent results and I think they’ll be fine. More likely is the “bigger” clubs in the league overstretching themselves and blowing up spectacularly, than a small club who cut their cloth accordingly folding.

3- Are we any near to have a lower division and therefore relegation.

I doubt it. Unless there is a merger with another league. The idea that has been floated in the past of “relaxing” ground grading (as if that hasn’t already happened – there are Senior League grounds which would never have made the grading in the Ridgeons, North West Counties or North East Counties) in order to get clubs in from the Essex & Suffolk League or the Essex Olympian. However, that is now a non-starter. When the FA come to decide which step 5 leagues are for the chop the ESL’s position would only be weakened by having a 2nd tier with poor, unfloodlit grounds in it.

4- Will the small clubs of the ESL League be able to compete one day.

It can be done. Look at Eton Manor and Stansted. They were in the bottom 4 or 5 for years, and although Manor have had a bad start this season – they have both moved themselves into the “upper mid table” reckoning in recent seasons. Good careful management and young, hungry players are what’s required.

5- What's the visibility of the big clubs going forward.

Not sure what the question is intended to mean. If it is what do the “big” clubs aim for going forward then I guess they aim for the Ryman Leagues. Just like Romford did. However, their experience so far suggests the gap isn’t as small as some hoped it was. If it means how “visible” will the big clubs be….. I can only see attendances falling and clubs being even more reliant on random rich blokes.

6- Is there any hope with the referees improving their standars.

I have to be careful here….. but erm… no. The one thing I’d hope for is that the refs get a bit more mental training than physical. They get easily swayed when officiating the teams that do get a bit of a crowd and it leads to some awful decisions in favour of the “bigger clubs”.

7- How many teams from the Rayman League were promoted from the ESL.

Plenty.

8- Who will be bottom of the league in April 2010.

Mauritius Sports.
