Nothwood V ETFC

lovely stuff

I enjoyed the game tonight but very frustrating at the way the two goals were conceded and how Minniti (first half) and Fabio twice in the second half did'nt put Northwood to bed is beyond me, their keeper was actually a very vulnerable one we failed to really take advantage of. A good first half from the debutant Mark Kirkby but he fell away in the second. I thought Paul Marks was our best player today.

Funny game this football lark.

Funny how we all see a different game.

I agree with some of the above - first half was fairly open game and the penalty was 100% correct as Marks had his foot taken away just as he was about to shoot.

However, overall control and forward play was no better than average if that.

Second half - went down hill with Fabio missing at least 3 chances to score in 1 on 1 positions with the keeper and only won a corner each time.

Two sucker punches / crosses and easy goals by Northwood and game over.

Kirby had a good first game in midfield.

Why oh why did we not use all of our 14 players ? 1 - 2 down with 15+ to go and what is the main sub - Wee little Johnson against 6' 6" two at the back. His contribution was zero.

( actually, what has he done in any game ?? )

Why did we not use Jonesey for the last 15 up front ? ( someone said he was not fit - then why was he on the bench ? )

Marks - man of the match - Your avin a Laugh !!!

Very concerned about Saturday v Concord.

Let's hope the team can raise their game.

So was the performance - much better than Saturday. The most frustrating aspects were the missing of good chances, particularly in the second half, and going to sleep on our right flank twice when we conceded both goals. Considering the fact we were missing Stuart, Adam and Rudi, this wasn't a bad performance at all, and we should not have lost the game.

What frustrated me most was the fact that we seemed to play to our strengths in the first half, and were well worth our lead (could have been more even), by playing it short and passing the ball in midfield. Thompson and Kirby were influential and we looked dangerous. Second half we seemed to constantly give the ball away by hitting long balls to Fabio and Minniti / Johnson, and losing possession as much as we did just seemed to invite pressure. At one point, Blackburne rolled the ball out to Ross Edwards, and he looked up to see pretty much every player in a white shirt running away from him towards the box. We may as well have put Chris Wild up front from the start of the half if we were going to hit balls like that, because at least Fabio and Minniti could have fed off the scraps.

I'm struggling to think of a MoM to be honest, let's hope we have some fit forwards for Saturday and get a decent result...

I only said I enjoyed the match as a spectacle. There were two teams giving it a good go in accordance to there abilities. On the ETFC front I feel we lost to at best an average Northwood team by performing averagely ourselves, we could have had six goals tonight but made there keeper look good and you know what, he was a poor keeper that saved poor efforts from Fabio in those one v one situations, otherwise Fabio was decent tonight. We certainly missed the SB and AW partnership which i'm sure would have been more ruthless.

Our next 5 games are not for the feint hearted, 2xConcord, Lowestoft, W&F and Heybridge. Saturday and the November fixtures will give us a real testimony of how strong we are and how realistic these set of lads are in getting into at least a play off spot.

Whichever way the cookie crumbles we stand a better chance by giving the team our continuos strong support, as we have some real good boys representing us.

I know it's rare but I have to agree with you on this! :bartshocked:

The long ball is fine if it is planned and the front runners get to the ball and do something with it.

However, if it is intercepted, then it normally comes back twice as fast.

Indeed, it is then a long pass, which is a completely different kettle of fish to the aimless "percentage" long ball. The long pass takes real skill and is a joy to behold - the likes of Hoddle and Beckham spring to mind: these days Tom Huddlestone is one the best exponents.
