4-4-2 then

On the basis that Mr Butler prefers to play a 4-4-2 system; and as he has already been in the job for all of 24 hours-even though he has not yet lost a game-it must be time that sad armchair managers like myself, advise him what his best team is under that system from the current quality playing staff when all fit..

Here's my stab at it :

Whincup

Lacy Young, Harwood Haverson

Eduesi Keister Wilson Robinson

Healey Blackman

subs:Bersford, Morris ,cliffe ,Lewis ,stubbs. (6th and 7th subs-Taylor and King )

Pretty difficult to fit those players into a 4-4-2.

Should robinson be at left back-but how can you drop Haverson who has been outstanding this season.(to start with takes Youngs place who is injured i guess until late November.)

Is Morris a better right back than Lacy ?

Where does healey play in a 4-4-2 (my gut feel is that he may miss out under Butler)

Arguably-neither healey or blackman are out and out strikers .(can Butler bring Brian Haule or Harrison with him ?)

Will corbishley be back to challenge for a place.

Does Samson King fit in somewhere ?

Its actually quite a challenge to play 4-4-2 from the personnel we have ;but they are quality players, and i am sure Mr Butler will bring the best out of them.

I have no preference for 4-4-2 ,3-5-2 or whatever.

(though i guess if pushed, i favour 4-4-1-1. )

All i want is winners-no matter how its achieved.

Frnkly-this formation stuff is overated anyway-mainly depends on players doing their job in whatever system they are in.

I was simply endeavouring to provoke a bot of debate in whats going to be a long two weeks before the footie gets going again.

Just to muddy the waters heres my team:

Whincup

Lacey, Young, Harwood, Robinson

Boreau, Keister, Stubbs, Eduesi

Blackman, Cliff.

Subs Krunic, Haverson, Morris, Wilson, Healey.

Not sure whether we actually signed either of the strikers from the Folkestone game and don't know names anyway so i've gone with Sam alongside Lloyd.

I think you're spot on about formation. It's more about players doing the jobs they're asked to do, and their games being suited to that job.
