Today's Game

Blimey! That was fortunate. A thoroughly undeserved win in one of our worst matches under Steve Bateman, yet another lat goal clinches all-three points for us. But hey - who cares!!

Eliott Buchannan by far our best player today I thought and an awesome free-kick. Thought that the midfield went missing at times today (especially for their second goal) and the back-four had a torrid time today and not their normal selves. Several players had bad days today.

We'll have to play a lot better, as better teams than Stourport Swifts would have punished us today. But great getting the three points

Agreed a thoroughly undeserved win, we were very poor at times, but it is teams which can do that and win which will be in the playoffs at the end of the season.

Buchanan was good today, MOTM I think. Mo could have had 2 or 3 goals before half time but his chances just aren't beating the keeper and he has been very unlucky in the last couple of games. But the rest of the team looked quite shaky and the passing was very poor. DJ has a gift-wrapped chance at 1-1 but the finish was bad. Hayes looked very lively when he came on and deserved the assist for the winner.

Hopefully this will breed a bit more confidence and bring back the better passing football.

Fortunate enough that the linesman played a big part in 2 of the goals as he gave the free kick and the corner. The ref was refusing to give either.

Murphy and Sweeney had their worst games so far and Mo(yes I know hes only young) did what he did last Saturday and was at fault for the 1st goal needs to learn quickly at this level to be if in doubt kick it out. Great free kick from Elliott and not a bad header from Hibbert but what did he do for the rest of the game, midfield still missing someone who can win a tackle or put their foot in as we found out when the midfield went missing for Swifts 2nd goal, but 3 points is 3 points

- we got out of jail again today, we had many days over the past 2-3 seasons that we were beaten in the last mins , football

always even's its self over the season, so 3 points it is..and its great our team never give's up...a far cry from previous seasons...

up the rebels...

still finding it hard to believe we actually won. i will never understand how but we will take that very gratefully

Stourport were not particularly great but they stopped us from doing anything though tbh i think we did everything we could to stop ourselves more than anything

near enough nothing went right for us but we found a way and thats a promising sign

Elliot is fast becoming the striker i hoped he could be. a quality goalscorer who can grab goals regularly even when the team is not playing well or when he himself is not really in the game. 6 goals in just 11 appearances for us he has now and at least 3 or 4 of them games he played on the wing i believe

nobody else really stood out at all tbh

i too thought Stourport had a nailed on penalty not given though i was miles off the actual action so hard to tell. certainly could understand why their coach was angry though he made a fool of himself sitting on the wall when sent off

Blimey, talking about grinding that one out!

A draw would have been a fair result as both teams were poor, but as said above, we didn't give up. A sign of a good team when you win by not playing well. Also generally agree about certian players performances, Mo will become a cracker of a player as he gets older and judging by the last couple of weeks it won't be long! Imho, i didn't think it was a penalty for SS. Their player seemed to make a meal of it to me... but I've said that before and got proven wrong!

I think it was a game where you could not single out any players for critisism because apart from Elliots 2 goals and Leons winner virtually all 11 had shockers.

does that include the subs RR or did some of the team that started have a good game iyo

Having seen my first game of the season and my Slough victory for 3 years (cannot remember who the last one was against because the official site archive does not go back that far but I remember that Errol Telemaqe was playing and was, I think, sent off) it struck me how much things have improved since I last saw us (2-0 defeat at Didcot last season). From what I saw of yesterday's game we definitely created more chances than the opposition (two unlucky deflections for corners in the first half, Mo firing just wide of the far post, DJ clean through) and, with three goals as well, we created more than in any game I have seen for a long time. Some of the defending was awful but I always felt that we had the ability to score - something I have not felt in recent years. Of course we should not get carried away and it is good to see people being realistic but for somebody who can only attend occasionally, the difference was huge and very welcome! I am not sure when I will next come to a Slough game but I would be more than happy to see more performances like that! (Cue ridicule from all quarters!)

Thing is, if it wasn't a penalty why wasn't the player booked for diving?

If the ref thought Jacko got the ball first and the player happened to trip of the outstretched arm then there's no penalty, no cards for either, and it's just a natural coming together, ending in a red card for their manager.

I agree with everything said, that we did not play well at all today. Also Elliot would be my MOM as well.

Dean is also starting to play like his old self again, now he's got a few matches under his belt.

It's nice to be in the situation where all can agree that the performance was not the best, but the match was won.

Also it's nice to be winning games in the 89th+ minute rather than losing them like the past few seasons.
