Is this true?

This from Twitter - Mark Butler has advised the Club today that he is leaving to take up the manager’s job at Margate FC.

Keith Bristow will be in charge of the team tomorrow against Maidstone United and a further statement will be issued in due course. Keith has the Club’s full support and he will be addressing the players prior to tomorrow’s match at home to Maidstone which now assumes a greater significance.

That sounds like Steve Butler you're thinking of, FF.

From the AT Mx site

Manager – Mark Butler

Mark came to Ashford from Chertsey Town, as Assistant to Nathan Wharf, after enjoying a long and successful career as a striker with Wycombe Wanderers, Egham Town, Staines Town and Aldershot Town amongst others. He made an excellent impression and upon Wharf’s resignation in December 2004, was immediately appointed manager and led the Club to promotion in 2005-06 then won the Westview (League) Cup in 2006-07. Mark has also led the Club to glory in the Surrey Senior Cup in 2008-09 and guided his squad to the Fourth Rond Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.

If he can persuade Ricky Wellard away from AFC Wimbledon he will do for me :)

If true just hope Nev is kept on in his old role of bringing through the youngsters.

Twitter & Facebook beat you by sometime Alan.

Get with the programme at http://www.twitter.com/MargateFC

That would be because anything that gets posted on the Ashford Town (Middlesex) website automatically gets added to our Twitter feed...

Gutted Mark has left Short Lane, but wish him all the best for the future.

Mark Butler is a legend at Aldershot Town. He played in the first match for the club back at their inauguration in 1992, after signing from Egham Town, when they reformed after the old club folded and they began again in the old Div 3 of the Ryman. He made over 300 appearances for the club scoring a massive 155 goals as they climbed the Non League pyramid.

Jeremy, your shoestring will be significantly wider than Ashford's, if you know what I mean.

That's not a dig, or a criticism. Margate get decent games for this level and even allowing for your recent problems, you'll be able to offer significantly more money in wages than we would.

Mark will work incredibly hard for MFC and, while I'm sure all Ashford fans are sorry to lose him, nothing is forever and he will relish the challenge. As for us, we're lucky enough to have been left an excellent coaching set-up that will look after us in the meantime.

I suspect Beano is right about our shoestring. Terry suggested as much in a number of his interviews when he was here.
