Hoddesdon were excellent last night against a Wembley side who have all the skill in the World but, rather like Sport London e Benfica, can't finish to save their lives and regularly try to walk the ball into the net. Yes Roger was over the moon jumping up and down with joy after the Referee had inexplicably played six minutes of added time.

FA website said 8pm ko, Hoddesdon's said 7.45, Programme said 3pm, Wembleys site didn't mention the game, but it did finally kick off at 8pm, with the threat of extra time if scores were level at the end, but no penalties, a replay if still level! Can't then see the point of extra time personally.

Ground well covered on here before, a good one i thought, with the added bonus of the Wembley Arch being lit up throughout which provided some good pictures. Also nice to get back to tea bars with realistic prices, run by a very friendly couple.

Wembley went ahead on 17 mins when a slight headed deflection from a free kick looped over the keeper into the net. Parity was restored 5 minutes later with another lob over the keeper, to the delight of the ten or so Hoddesdon fans.

Ten minutes into the second half Hoddesdon took the lead, previous goalscorer unmarked in the box headed past the keeper for his second. Despite alot of Wembley pressure, they couldn't equalise, bar when two of their players were rightly flagged for offside.

So, the first ever winners of the Vase march on into Round 3 and a home tie vs Kirkley & Pakefield.

I booked the tickets a while ago as we had a free night, was gutted when the game got rescheduled for the tuesdays as the reply was down for a Wednesday night.

Rhodes- Wembley are alot better team the benfica are, they created chances last night against hoddy but the defence or keeper dealt with everything where when iv seen benfica they are clueless and just run with the ball til they lose it where wembley were creating things and building up play!!
