Hmmmm....I just wonder why we have to make hard work of it but still we're through and it's a welcome £2k into the coffers. My MOTM was Ashley Dumas up to when he got injured...after that Andy Walker, who IMO, saved us quite a few times last night. I tell you, okay, we made hard work of it and it wasn't the best game technically but what an exciting game!!! True, it was nerve racking but either team could've won it last night and AFC Sudbury deserve as much praise as ours for the feast of entertainment.

Looking at our fixture list, our next home game is Saturday 7th November!!! Good Lord!!!

I know I don't usually go in for trumpet blowing but bar a couple of grammatical mistakes (my fault), Ryan did a superb job on the programme considering it was started on Sunday from scratch. In fact, I thought everyone that helped out last night, from our guys on the turnstiles to stewards, through to Sharon Kent and her rather tasty Lasange, were on the ball and deserve all of our appreciation. We may not be firing on all cylinders on the pitch but we do pretty well at the "other" off pitch stuff.

A goods night entertainment and some good individual performances, specialy from Walker & the "usual suspects". Both the new lads impressed again and full marks to Matt Hall for his long range effort that dipped onto the cross-bar.

But, it's taken 2 games, extra time & penalties, to overcome opposition who are bottom half of a league below us. It's taken quite a toll in injury terms. We need league points at Bognor and this protracted victory will not have helped our cause at all.

Lets hope the management can present us with some positive news on new signings in time for the trip to the south coast on Saturday.

Well done to the lads getting us into the next round. It was an entertaining game, but we certainly do not cope well from set piece play. Their throw-in specialist is a sight to be seen. I thought we once again played some very good football when we got it on the floor, but if only we could just find that killer ball to unlock defences. Danny Green to me was excellent, as again was Matt Hall, BUT it was a team effort so not really fair to single folk. However, we have to thank our lucky stars we have Walker in those sort of situations, but their second goal looked a bit weak as it looked to be headed in from inside the 6 yard box..(i apologise now if i am wrong about that from where i was). Also, their first goal appeared ? to be a free header in the penalty area which defensively is not pleasing, but hey ! look at Chelski the other day so cannot be too harsh.

Felt for Pond when he hit the bar from our first pen, but i thought he made a difference on the pitch especially with one crucial run back and covering block. I also hope Dumas injury is not bad as he also (i thought) had a good game. Cousins and Macca worked hard (which in fairness to Sudbury) they had to.

Bricknell took his goal well, but think their keeper lost sight of his positioning. Baker held the ball up well on the night.

As is the case in penalty situations the keepers can be the hero and Walks did that for us last night, and how he enjoyed that !

As for Sudbury, they looked to be tiring rapidly as extra time went on, but gotta give them loads of credit as i thought they played well and certainly came for an open game.

So onto Barton ! They also seem to be a team capable of scoring goals - Please lets stay in the Trophy just a little longer lads.

The Green Machine looked very good, I can't wait to see the impact he will have on games. I was very pleased to see the players go over to the management last night when Billy got the second, it shows that they are fighting for each other. Matt Hall impressed again, we are going to miss him hwen he departs. Can anyone give the run down on Luca and Ryan? It is the first time I have seen them, but I see from the programme that they are in the reserves and did well at Canvey.

As a team we played well again, as Saturday.

Individually all contributed, but I agree with above that Walker, Dumas, Hall and Green were the pick.

I also again liked the look of Frankis when he came on - wouldn't mind seeing him start a game soon.

I'm somewhat surprised by the credit to Sudbury.

I felt they were a one-dimentional hit-and-hope long ball team who had no idea except to kick or throw into the penalty area.

As a tactic it certainly worked, but I'd much rather be watching the passing game enjoyed by our midfield than that kind of old-style dross.

Shinn and Hall controlled the midfield, although I'm not convinced Sudbury actually bothered to have one.

Negatives:

We failed to beat a low quality team from a lower league in 2 matches + extra time.

Dumas getting injured - we can't afford another defender out, although O'Rourke looks confident.

Despite a great display by Walker, that's now 10 goals conceded in 3 games.

The attendance - did I hear 252? That is worryingly low, even for a Tuesday night game.

All in all, though, its good to go through to the next round, we scored a couple of goals, and the team look like they're beginning to gel nicely.

On to Saturday..

Relieved to get our first win at home (and get rid of the 'vintage' bottle of red) it was a struggle, but I think we mostly played well, generally keeping the ball on the ground and passing to our own team although, we did seem vulnerable from their set plays, the long throw and corners.

I would have like to have seen a straight win, but winning on penalties will still build confidence, the match looked like a team effort with everyone working together well, good for all, however Walker was immense during the penalties (and the game)....... now need some league points especially at Bognor and hopefully the boys can fully recover for Saturday.

It was so good to get a win, although we made hard work of it, a win is a win and hopefully it can put some belief and confidence back into our players. I thought throughout the game we were the better side and deserved to go through though. Like Keith said, it was a team effort, but my MOTM was Matt Hall. I also think Baker is improving in games now.

Two things concerning me at the moment though, one is the injuries we are getting now in defence, with Oates and possible Dumas out for Saturday, we could look a little lightweight at the back, and also Bricknell looked a bit worrying, another concern is that their two goals came from set pieces again, we need to work on that.

Was at last night's match and enjoyed it greatly. Credit to both teams for putting in a hardworking shift for 120 minutes. Thought both 'keepers were in top form. Pity there was only 252 to witness a fine cup-tie. I'll shall be returning to watch 'Ricky when the fixtures don't clash with Brentwood Town's.

The New Lodge pitch looked in very good nick. Also, the matchday programme was an excellant effort.

Well done & good luck to Billericay in the next round.
