And if no one gives a manager a chance to manage at the next level up, how will there ever be a manager suitable to manager us? Some one has to take a "chance" - it just needs to be the right chance.

I agree Wellsie, but it is always a gamble, and can we afford another one?

i think personally Nev needs to stay at the club even if as driector of football or as a coach but i tihnk we need a manager that has experiance at non-league level so im agreeing wiht most people

Whilst i would be more than happy to see Andy Ford appointed, are we in some danger here of assuming that he actually has an interest in the position ?

I don't see him saying anywhere that he has applied/is interested.

For all i know-he may not have the slightest interest in a position at Margate

Are some people missing the point here with the Andy Ford link. He left Welling because he felt their ambition didnt match his and he wasnt happy with the budget , I think neither our ambition nor budget are up to much at the moment either, are they ? To be honest I wouldnt like it if he got the job anyway and after speaking to a mate who's a Welling fan it seems Ford may think he's slightly better at the job than he actually is .

I understand what you're saying Michael but, at the moment he is one of the best qualified guys who we wouldn't have to poach (ie who's available). We want a man with experience of this level, who's willing to invest time into building a team virtually from scratch and move us out of this League towards the Conference. We have a stronger Board now who should give a new man time to build the team for the long term.

I realise he may not have applied for the job, but his experience is such that we should approach him and enquire if he's interested.

What I don't think is healthy for the Club is someone like who, like Ashby, like Terry doesn't have the experience at this level and after 12 months leaving us looking for a replacement over again. Before CK took over the reigns we were having a Manager-A-Season and struggling to string a handfull of wins together - thats what we have now, we need to get out of that cycle.

Although I've always stated that a manager with non-league experience is what is required, could there not be implications with the potential appointment of Ford. After all, would Welling (or would anyone, for that matter) really think it a coincidence if he were to become manager of Margate just weeks after leaving Welling. 'Tapping up' of players seems to be rife in football, so would Welling lodge similar allegations against us about a manager?

Or they might just be glad to see the back of him! Everyone in football taps up all the time anyway. It's almost impossible to prove.

Iain O'Connell has been with Great Wakering for a number of years. Yes i agree he has not managed at a higher level, but with his progress there surely he deserves a chance. Lets not forget that despite being a division below us when his side visited HP for a preseason friendly, not only did they beat us but they played much better and more attractive football than we did.

Chris Kinnear for me. I really don't care about being shot down for this by people saying he lost his way (probably the same people who held "please stay" plackards at Homelands). Not his fault we were left without a ground and he had to glean a whole new squad with no money. And he was LOYAL. If he'd lost his judgement then I wouldn't mind a manager whose judgement was so bad that he bought us our best goalscorer in years-which we haven't had since. Roll the debate.

Whoever gets the job has to have at least 2 seasons under his belt at Margate . We just keep chopping and changing managers so whoever it is that takes the helm has got to be given the chance to clear out and bring in the required players that he thinks we need unfortunatly the rest of our season is going to be chop and change but as long as he keeps us up then he can start to build . I have stated before that the club has to have a settled side as quickly as possible but i really can`t see this happening . If it was someone like Ford then the clearout will begin instantly if JK comes in there he will know what he wants and who so maybe abit slower . May seem like a wasted season so far but good things could come from it for the next season or 2 .

Up the Gate .

Why do we need a clear out ?

Nothing wrong with most of the players we have-just need slightly better organisation, and someone to bring/coach the best out of them-plus another central midfield player.

It could also be argued that we have a settled side-of the current regular first team-only Blackman, goalkeeper,Keister and arguably Lewis were not here last season.
