THE EASTSIDE

Eastside Urchin

Much better from the Eastside last night. In terms of the fans on the hill it is a difficult one to call - we haven't created much noise for a while (excluding last night). The main problem is that attendances all around in non-league football are generally down so losing a few supporters in the bar/on the hill has more of an effect than it did a couple of years ago. No easy answer.

the eastside was *the* place to be in the conference south. we didn't have the hill at the time, and conference rules meant that no alcohol was allowed to be served whilst the match was being played, so unless you'd bought 45 minutes worth of beers and didn't want to watch the football, then you'd go outside to watch it. because the bar used to close, people would get there earlier in order to consume the shouting juice. we'd then give the opposition players, fans and the refs and linos hell. once we went to the ESL, we carried that attitude with us.

i think part of the problem with the eastside is that people could tend to get carried away and give absolutely shocking abuse, which we in the eastside should have self-policed. the eastside became for me somewhere i went if i wanted to hear casual racism, or people being called all the names under the sun, just because they'd been fouled. personally, i'd rather have a beer on the hill.

it seems now that alot of other people would prefer the civilised tranquility of the hill and the delights of the bar and the eastside has emptied a fair amount of late and the remaining few are only now looking around and wondering what happened.

treeboys in love, big boy has gone all soft lol

i agree with the abuse at times but we are all guilty of overstepping the mark from time to time with regards to hurling abuse,i think though when you hear someone for 90 minutes disagreeing with every decision then it becomes an irritant, the banter with the lino last night was good and a bit of banter with their players from time time as well,it definatly had a better feel to it last night on the eastside, just would be nice to get a few more people in there.

with regards to the hill and the bar,as i have already stated i think its peoples choice to be able to drink while the game goes on and stand/sit where they like,my gripe isn't with people that turn up and consume alcohol (obviously),mines more to do with people just not turning up at all

People on the hill miss the friendly banter.

Particularly Shaggy the Linesman the other night.

Even the 2nd linesman had to laugh when the ball hit him and someone shouted out

"Shaggy would have caught that".
