New Years Honours !

Recommended Posts

It's a gorgeous Saturday morning, and me and 'Er Indoors' are off to the South Coast with the family.......

SO............

A subject to get your teeth into.

NEW YEARS HONOURS LIST !

Like em or luv em, they're here to stay !

Sir Roger Moore ?? Mmmmm. At least it was for his services to charity, and not his acting !

Jamie (Pukka) Oliver. I'd rather not comment, other than to say there are far more better chefs who deserve an honour !

Dame Helen Mirren. Still fantastic at 57 !!

Becks O.B.E. Well, I supposed it had to come. Does it stand for "On Bike to Europe" ?

Any other ideas on the subject ???

Yeah, scrap the farce. Why give awards to incredibly wealthy, famous people who have only acted in their own interest? Of sure they might "give generously of their time" to charities and do "good work" what not, big deal, if I was that wealthy I'd be generous.

Knighthoods should only be awarded for rescuing damsels, and killing dragons and Frenchmen.

Might just as well scrap them now Tony and the labour party have reduced them to "lets see if we can get reflective bounce" off of the popular vote

Why else the nonesense award to David Beckham, Nice lad who works hard and blessed (after hard work ) with a single skill

Every thing that man Blair touches he cheapens

Why give awards to showbiz celebrities, businessman, industrialists, sportsmen and women and retiring civil servants?

What have they done that a factory worker, for example, doesn't every day of his/her life but in mindless drudgery, boredom and probably led by incompetent fools?

Oh yes they do "marvellous charity work".

My [****!!****]!

I will be non serious and serious in one post.....

why scrap 'em now pabird when its got to the stage that we can all get 'em.....Lord Pabird OBE ...sounds good to me....a place on the HFC board awaits you....(and probably BP as well)....The 'Right Honourable Lord Urchin' sounds even better......the missus would like that 'Lady Urchin'...

as for factory workers Vis 1.....most of the ones that I'm familiar with wouldn't give a man dying of thirst a single drop of water....let alone do anything for nothing.....

the fact does remain that charity work is vital in many walks of life...including non league football and such like minded organisations...its the life blood of them....the better off people in life do tend to have more time and therefore tend to get involved more in charities...hence the unbalance in the gongs being handed out....

my old mum is 81 now and has worked for the WRVS since she retired 20 years ago...after 25 years they get to go to a garden party at Buck palace and get a little gong....

well earned I would say.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

My point exactly, Unc. If there to be honours and awards it is people like your mum who deserve them.

By factory workers I mean anyone who is not in showbiz, etc etc. and I find that many people are caring and generous, although relatively few actively work for charities.

Gongs for "dervices to football" or =servies to business" I find ludicrous. Why not gongs for "services to bus driving" or "eating breakfast"?

I am suspicious of the motive of celebrities who work for charities, to be frank (and Ernest, perhaps!).

Is a non-league football, or any sports, club, really a charity in the sense that we are using the term? It is not really working for the benefit of others, but the pusuit of a hobby.

I don't know if it's still the case, but London Transport (as was) always used to have a quota of nominations to dish out to long-serving employees. Some of those did go to bus drivers.

What exactly has Beckham done to deserve his OBE?

A little charity work, I dare say. But he's not exactly noted for it, is he?

He's a good footballer and is the captain of England, but so was Linaker.

Awards. Only won them at club level. Unless he captained the national team to winning the World Cup, it's really should not be given for this.

He's a role model. Well so are hundreds of other people but you can hardly give out OBE's for being popular, can you?

So to round it up, he's been made an OBE for doing his job and being a thoroughly decent bloke.

Queen (or should that be Tony?)... Hello...... Helloooooo..........!!!!

He is a fantastic footballer, yes, but anything won at club level has been achieved because he was doing his job, nothing more. Damned good pat on the back for what he has done for that little girl, but still...

I got a pay rise at work and frequently give what I can to numerous charities but don't expect an OBE for it!

And as for that **** Ferguson.........

to big a star for the wrong reasons...(fergies viewpoint)

gotta go...no question...

football is business...accountants talk loudest....
