Billericay 1-5 Kingstonian

Recommended Posts

Due to a combination of hyper-critical forum posts and abuse during the game, both aimed at individuals, I'd be amazed if any of the players want to play for us again!

They've got enough on their plate to turn things around without over the top fan pressure adding to their woes and putting them off their game during the game.

Any game plan and positive attitude they are sent out on the pitch with are immediately lost due to the thoughlessness of some.

In my opinion!

Granted the first half hour was quite good, but after that was a complete horror show. The lack of effort, skill, application of tactics and passion from players and management (actually, I'll excuse Wareham from that criticism) as goals 3,4 and 5 went in was bewildering and inexcusable.

It doesnt get much worse than getting done 5-1 at home and I for one am amazed that I didnt wake this morning to hear that the Manager had done the honourable thing, tendered his resignation and it had been accepted.

Action needs to be taken NOW before its too late a we are consigned to spending the next few years in Div 1.

Have you noticed that I'm not a happy bunny? :)

It maybe nothing but Carl Griffiths was over at NL watching the game last night !

To be honest this doesnt mean anything as he is out of work and a lot of managers try to go to as many games as they can to keep up there knowledge of sides/formations/players.

I dont think Griffiths would be the answer anyways. he had one good season as a manager and that was with a large budget for that league and at the end of the day, they still lost in the play offs. I feel if we were to replace Statham we would need someone with a bit more experience and someone who knows what this league is all about and can get us the players to fight to get out of this league, Not a manager fom the league below. Only my opinion though

I'm not sure where this 'Town Liar' thing has come from? I don't recall hearing or reading any lies from the Town Crier.

I'm sure if you criticised constructively and civilly your points would be treated more seriously? We ARE all on the same side!

I totally agree, I was at that shambles last night, but Steve Kent deserves better then that insulting rubbish. He'll be hurting as much as any fan on here, You are no Billericay fan matey.........

I would assume that they are not Billericay Town supoporters (wow that was a leap) but some idiot from another local Essex area.

They quite probably think they are amusing and in their sad little World, think they're helping... I would like to ask the owners of this forum why theu don't give the "local" moderators the power to deal with these people. We can read their sh*t, why can't we at least suspend them from the forum, pending a full ban by the "higher authorities". They just ruin it for the true supporter...

Well said Paul.

I think that BS must have gone into hiding.

Personally I would like to see Hodgey back.

Played at most levels and knows his game.

Maybe the Town Lier should take notice

At least spell it right mate , if your going to insult the man , Steve Kent always seemed a genuine sort to me , football does these things bad form , results going against you , injuries , lack of confidence , a club needs belief , any long term City fan can tell you all about pain & suffering & bumping along the bottom , wholesale sackings of manager/players is not the answer , get behind the club and the manager and players , its when the chips are down that a clubs support shows it's mettle , good luck Ricay , by the way Adrian Durham gave you's a namecheck on Talkshite.

Who said we are too good to go down?

Last night, we looked like a relegation team in the second half, okay, the first half we shouldnt have been 1-0 down at half time, and we were the better team, but, if you dont even create chances, then your not going to score and win or even draw games, simple as.

The subs that were made, taking off probably one of the better players on the pitch - Matt hall, was a joke, bringing on Sullivan instead of Chatting, also what was that about?!?!

It seems like when we go 1-0 down, we just collapse, and nobody is there to lift us back up again!!

Totally agree. Not sure why Steve KEnt is being called Town Liar he has done a massive amount for this club and I think we should be grateful. I have only known Steve to talk honestly and openly to all and I think all should show some respect.

Just wanted to echo all those sentiments.

Unfortunatly TC's "rant" in the "Dormer & Flack" thread, whilst probably cathartic for him, may have done little more than antagonise the more extreme elements on here, and possibly alienated some less extreme ones.

But, what the heck. There's very few of us perfect individuals about :)

I'll probably be at Sudbury, either cheering us to glorious victory or enjoying the Gallows Humour that's started to creep in.

as others have already pointed out ricayrich is clearly another troll, almost certainly the same person as the recently banned hat(e)ricay. Please ignore this sad individual and eventually he may get bored and crawl back under the rock he came from.

Id be surprised if any genuine ricay fans had any sort of grudge against steve that would lead him to make these comments. As gazz has already said lets have this chump banned. Meanwhile the rest of us can get on with the serious business of rallying round and supporting the club for the forthcoming relegation battle

I am one of the few who still supports Brian not because I am a glutton for punishment, but because any manager needs more than 11 games. He needs to build his own team and he has inherited one at the moment. As he said in his programme notes he wants to build a young hungry team and I for one am prepared to wait to see that happen. As for any criticism of Steve Kent I think any true fan of Billericay should be disgusted with any such opinion since he clearly has a sensible ambition for the club. I believe that given time, with the current owner and management team and the support we have, that we will be in the higher division in the near future. Lets get behind the team and Brian. Come on you Blues!!

Just need to point out to you that in fairness to Both the Manager & the Coach they both stood in the middle of the bar last night and did anything but HIDE.

So really you need to get your facts sorted before you knock people.

Fan's / Supporters like you really do nothing for the BTFC morale either on of off the pitch.

The good thing about this new forum is that it has a report button. I didn't see the point of it at first but it could come in handy with pricks like you around.

As one of the supporters who suffered through the truely dreadful late 1980's seasons which saw us plummet from the Premier Division down to the (then) Division Two North, I just want to say what is happening at the moment - on the field - has a very similiar feel about it. Back then - for those very lucky souls who, for whatever reason, didn't witness the fall from grace, Billericay were a respected name, having risen dramatically from the lower leagues to play alongside the non-league big boys. We held our own in the Premier Division for a few seasons and, as supporters, we looked forward to the next push ahead and the team that would start to threaten the top of the table rather than just the middle. Getting the comparision? What happened next was a change of manager (then Peter Burton) and a reliance on a bunch of players who, with but a handful of exceptions, either never lived up to their reputations or were, quite obviously, out of their depth playing at Premier Division level. Although relegation, when it came on the final day of the season, was hard to take - the considered view was that one (very) bad season would be but a blip and the mighty 'Ricay would return stronger and better prepared for the Premier League. That return was eventually made some 10 years later but not before the rot set in and a second relegation within three seasons dropped us into Division Two.

Now, I am not saying that this current team and manager is going to repeat the above regrettable feat but the player comparisons are unnervingly uncanny!! Back then we had a top class goalkeeper in Mark McCutcheon - right now Andy Walker is as good as they come at this level and has already proven so despite the goals we are now shipping. Defensively we had centre backs who were stoppers rather than footballers - in my opinion our current centre backs are stoppers not footballers in the purer sense. At full back we had a good right back (John Pullen) and an attacking left back who was okay going forward but defensively often found wanting (Ian Templeton). Match that with Dave McSweeney and Ashley Dumas and, again, I see the same likeness. When the defence of the past was breached it quickly collapsed soon after.......

In the midfield numerous players were tried and came and went but that area never settled for any significant length of time during those seasons. This left us all too often with mediocracy which was regularly overrun and out fought by even the most average opponents and lacked any creativity to provide a meaningful and lasting service the the forwards. For 1986-88 cue the present occupants of this area of play.

Up front we scored goals (Peter Burton / Paul Cockayne / Chris Maycock / John McCombe) but never in great quantities and, when we went behind, often never registered a reply due to the reasons I have previously mentioned. In Billy Bricknell I feel we have a potential match winner on any day but without any service his danger is easily subdued. As for our other remaining 'strikers' (post Flack) I've yet to see anything you could call dangerous. Oh and finally, on the playing front, we had several wingers who would normally have the odd good run or two during a game but rarely scare the hell out of full backs for 90 minutes or deliver crosses that threatened goals rather than damage to the stands or local wildlife. Sound familiar?

My final comparision - for this is all this is - is prehaps the most damming in that whilst all footballer supporters will begrudingly accept that no-one has the divine right to win every game, it is the manner in which defeat is taken that often tells you most about the character within your team. Busting a gut, trying your hardest, doing your best and losing is, in my opinion, acceptable. Caving in, going missing, giving up or cheating on your team mates is another matter. Back in the late 1980's we had players at our club who became masters at the latter, often saving themselves on the Saturday so they were fit to play for Lee Chapel North or some other 'top' local Sunday League side the next day. These were the same players who could be found laughing and joking without a care in the world in clubhouses immediately after we had been hammered at places like Sutton, Lewes and Chesham (yes they were a pain back then too!!). Let me be clear that I'm not saying this is the case with the current bunch right now but I do wonder how many of them really hurt after Tuesday nights game? Let's hope that comment is answered with a blinding performance on Saturday at AFC Sudbury....!

Sorry mate, but he did build his own team over the summer didnt he?! This has been a complete failure, so here we are 9 weeks into the season with a 2nd re-build taking place and the Manager being given a second chance in getting it right. He is obviously here to stay for a while (not that I necessarily agree with that) so I wish him all the best in doing so.

Whilst posting I would like to echo the opinions of others regarding the personal slating our Chairman. Whilst I/you/we may not agree with everything he does, he does it all with the clubs best interests at heart and encourages constructive debate on this forum.

Been a reader for a while, but never previously moved to post.

However, I'd also like to echo my contempt for the patheric attempted slurs aimed at Steve.

And as I've dipped my toes in the water...

I realise its not easy watching at the mo, but remember those Slough fans from a few years ago, watching their kids get tonked week in week out, 6 zip down to us at home and yet still singing their hearts out.

We are a long, long way from a place as dark as that. We can try and do our bit too perhaps?

John M what a quality post, great to read some of the history of the club and i think the past few posts show just how much we love this club, even brand new posters. Now you have dipped your toes in Very Blue you will log in at every chance you get lol!!

Must say though that even on Tuesday us fans behind the goal got behind the team from the start and what did we get, an utter capitulation. I will support anyone who plays with their hearts on their shirts and have a proper go, most didn't have that on Tuesday, hence the final scoreline. But I will not support a manager who is now rebuilding a team for a second time in two months! I wish him well but he has got to start proving the majority of us fans wrong now, starting with Sat.

As things stand now I know fans that don't miss games but they are giving Sat a miss cause they can't bare it anymore, it is apalling and embarassing. We haven't a young side like Slough did, we have a blend of youth and experience but it just isn't working. The two planned coaches two Sudbury & Bognor are not going to happen cause again people have had enough. It is a two way street give us the fans something to get behind.
