Billericay 1-5 Kingstonian

Recommended Posts

We started brightly, and the effort level from the whole team was what you'd expect in current circumstances.

However, we rarely threatened K's goal and when their penalty eventually went in there was the danger that things could get a lot worse, which they did in the second half.

Some "creative" substitutions failed to make any diffenece, and , it may be argued, contributed to the shambolic way we finished the game.

Positives; the lad, Hall, from Orient, Yiga, Macca, & Ash.

Negatives; everything else.

Tend to agree with a lot of other posts, the first half hour was pretty good. High tempo and a good work rate, although no real threat on goal again. They eventually score from the penalty and it went downhill from there. The second half was abysmal, a real horror show. I was impressed with Hall who seemed to run the midfield and can only assume he was injured as it was a baffling change to make.

The next two games are huge now, going out of a Cup to yet another side from lower in the pyramid and defeat at Bognor, would imo be the end of the line.

Hmm, well interesting night !

Lets start with the upbeat...I thought we did at last put some effort into the game in the first half, and imo opinion were looking the more likely to actually win the game.

However, i really do have grave concerns that we play some good football without actually creating anything in the penalty area, and lets face it football is not a difficult game. Two goals with nets..have some shots, headers and sometimes goals happen.

Agree that Hall looked impressive and Yiga also did well.

I do however fear we look to be a team who may just be in the relegation spots for a long time to come on the second half showing.

(No can do)

(actually it's "I Can't Go For That"...but I think I see where Rick is coming from).

Not through the PA on the far side of the ground, it isn't :biglaugh:

I don't think there could have been a worse result for Statham. It seems now that even the one positive, the defence has now fallen apart!

First half hour we showed some promise although didn't really threaten. As soon as they scored their penalty everyones head went down along with those of the fans. Second half was a total shambles and apart from Hall and Wareham who continued to run themselves into the ground I felt embarassed for the manager. Agree Yega put the effort in (first half) but as many pointed out last night, "he fakes to go round a player, then realises he hasn't got the skill to go round him!", he just aint good enough.

The run out for Sullivan was a joke, when a fired up Chatting is eager to come on. These are the decisions that make many fans wonder what the hell Statham is doing!

Goals 3,4 and 5 were scored with ease and showed the fans the lack of fight we have within the squad, which is worrying as a relegation battle seems to be our main competition this year. The one highlight was Baker finally scoring a goal, long long overdue, shame it was as important as his two goals at Braintree on Sat, but who knows he may go on a goal scoring spree!!!!

Well 10 days was not enough to see any improvement and I think time is most definetely running out. Bring on Sudbury followed by a boozy trip to Bognor, two wins or I think Statham should walk. Agreed maybe it is not the best decision cause who ever comes in has a mountain to climb and a whole squad to rebuild. However by late October I think we would have seen enough to know if Statham can turn it around, on current displays and on the back of a 5-1 thrashing at fortress New Lodge things aint looking to rosy or showing any signs of improvement!

The first hour was as good an hour of football we have played for 2 years.

In Hall the manager has made yet another outstanding signing, alebit a loanee, and the effort put in throughout the team was excellent if unrewarding.

Baker worked tirelessly, Wareham and Hall bossed the midfield and Yiga showed occasional signs of what he can do.

All in all a great effort and a performance that is certainly not one of a team that will be in the relegation zone for too long.

Shame about the last half hour, though.

My glass remains half full.

We all go through these times in nonleague football its all part and parcel and why we keep turning up week after week, but remember the only constant at any club are the fans, or we hope so.

Keep the faith and I'm sure you will pull through, after all we don't want to be the only top club in Essex.............

Couldn't make the first half so by all accounts missed the best part of our game, good points from the second half, Wareham made some good runs down the left side, but by the time he crossed the ball there were 4 or 5 K players in the box to defend, Hall also making some good plays and putting in effort, Yega had some good moments but seemed to be dispossessed a little too easily.

My boy was up for school next day so after going 3 zip down we headed off, only to hear a cheer as we got to the gates and thought 'have we scored, lets get back', only to hear the announcement "Kingstonians Fourth goal scored by....." that was enough for us.

After Bognor we have some stiff opposition in Sutton, Aveley then Dartford, but its still tight in the lower half of the table so a couple of wins and we could be out of danger.

Keeping the faith, but thinking about keeping my fingers crossed as well!!!!!!

Baker was booed by some supporters around the dugout when his name was announced at the start, perhaps that explains his reaction.

Hall, Wareham and Dumas showed some glimmer of hope.

The captain has to be more vocal, not a word after goals 2/3/4/5. I'm guessing his preferred position is left back, he's not a centre-half in the mould of a moore/trott i.e. his contested defensive headers are more glances than powerful winners. I'm not persecuting him, just an observation.

The words that went through my mind when Chatting was given the nod were 'don't put him on now, let them swallow their own sh#t'', quite frustrated at that point.

Chatting should definately have been introduced earlier, but it seems that homegrown loyal Billericay players don't fit into BS plans. As for our mute skipper; not only is he a crap captain, he's even worse at centre back. Oh, and why not bring off our best player on the park by a mile for some hasbeen. Clearly someone with Hall's skill and abilty doesn't sit well with our current incumbent. Do the right thing Statham - leave now and allow some rebuilding whilst we could possibly stay up.

I think some are being a little harsh over the Managers decision to substitute Hall. From where JL and I were standing, he was looking tired and because of that, less effective...so taking off the "rose coloured glasses" (well...hardly "rose") that some are wearing, perhaps the decision was the correct one? I mean, you have a young lad, first competitive game for a team, getting tired...I would expect the manager to take him off...for himself and the team performance. And he replaced him with a very capable midfield player as well...so (and managers decisions are made in real time - not with the luxury of the "TARDIS" of hindsight) a good decision, in my book.

Also watching last nights game was Alan Kimble who had been short listed for a couple of jobs in the conference. He is out of work at the moment and he would be a good successor to Brian Statham if he gets the sack.

A little word about the ref - How the Kingstonian fans must have been pulling their hair out when he made them re-take the pen because Walks was off his line, strange as they had already scored from the follow up. But prior to that Wareham being taken down as he was about to run into the box. For both teams he seemed to rule with a feather.

Another thing i find perplexing, is why is it that linos never seem to make a decision for themselves, to the extent of waiting for the ref to indicate which way a throw is before they raise their flag..This must happen to every team and is something i find ludicrous, the same as a foul in fromt of the lino but never waves ! very confusing..But this is not any excuse for us not scoring goals and i think this one liner from the K's messageboard sums up the season (thus far)

"(though Billericay's finishing had some to be desired)."
