ETFC v WARE

lovely stuff

Recommended Posts

2-2 with a minute to go. Header from, I think, Graeme Hall is saved low down by Walden's keeper. With the keeper still floored, Danny Clarke smacks the rebound towards the top corner, only for the keeper to pick himself up and fingertip the ball out for a corner. Clarkey was bowled over as he shot, and when he got up, he couldn't understand why we weren't all cheering the goal!

Last minute of extra time.

Scores level at 0-0 in a fairly nondescript Trophy Final.

Skelmerdale on the attack and the ref awards a penalty.

The stadium goes quiet. Alan Bermingham steps up to take the kick with Ian Wolstenholme in goal.

The shot is low to the right corner Ian dives and saves. Immediately passes it out to the wing and the E's counter attack for a save at the other end. The ref blows the whistle for full time to set up the replay at Maine Road.

2 programmes that I did not give to Arky.

What the observer said,

"A brilliant save by Ian Wolstenholme as he dived accross to reach Bermingham's low hard penalty prevented a disastrous ending to this enthralling game in which both teams fought with boundless enthusiasm and spirit without quarter or advantage."

I admit I was in tears having been at Wembley three years earlier when we had lost to Crook after Malcom Mitchell (another courageous goalkeeper) broke his arm saving from Roughley. (Substitutes were not allowed in those days). And Malcome came out with his arm in plaster for the second half at Wembley. Roy Thomas taking Mitchells place in goal.

An interesting game. Ware were a lot more difficult than many of us expected but how much did our grueling game on Saturday and their day off affect the game.

Saturday will be even more difficult. Adam showed his qualities perfectly last night. We need some strengthening at the back. Both of their goals came from defensive errors.

As for the penalty. Stuart was in front of the defender with the goal at his mercy. A photograph taken of the incident shows that he was being pulled down. I do not believe that Stuart in that situation would have let slip an opportunity to have a shot at goal. There should have also been a yellow card issued for the incident. Andy - the lino was nearer than you and he had no hesitation.

Steph. Beg to differ over the 'penalty'. I was as close and we were all laughing over the decision. Mind you, it got us back in the game.

Really happy after a disastrous start it really was a catalog of errors in the the first 10 mins but we really showed last night the quality we have this year with that fight back.

the fact that were not playing to our full potential and we are winning games can only be a promising factor for this year.

the one area we do need to sort is the midfield and to find a winning combination with the talented lads we have at the moment, Rudi i thought ran his socks off again and looks a new player since Steve and Del have taken over, Marks has been doing well and Fabio has been his creative sell laying on most of the ammunition for Stuart and Wallace who seriously look like a extremely dangerous combination up front !!!

really pleased this year so far and the Appointment of Steve and Del although very early still looks the right one in my book, defense looked alittle shaky last night tho that would be the only downer as Dave Allen has left the club and MacKay not being selected the last few weeks does anyone know why . . . injured ?? because i thought the Wild,MacKay,Edwards combination looked sound when they where together and rarely made mistakes at all!

looking forward to the trophy game this week and hopefully another step towards . . . . wherever the final will be held =)

Up the Town !!!!!!

Andy

It is not so clear as I thought. However Stuart was in front of the defender and this is a tackle from behind. It appears as though Stuart was also pulled down.

I see why your refering days are over!

Enfield Town 3 Ware 2

Stuart appears to be pulling the Ware defenders sock off too, so should that not of been a free kick to Ware?

Shocking decision agreed KY, but Ware didn't HAVE to collapse quite so dramatically! See you Saturday, result not a foregone conclusion by any means.
