It has been pointed out to me that a "poll" as to whether our "alternative" forum stays open or not.

Personally I think it would be a good idea to keep it open. I'm voting yes.

Whilst Fansfocus has improved & was used on Saturday for updates I still believe there is room for the alternative one. Wadayathink ?

As this one is fine now I feel it should be supported as Ian W puts a lot of hard work and monies into it.

I dont yhave now, and have never had a problem with either board. This is still being used as our main board, but I know that some people find the other board easier to use on matchdays.

Chris usually does the away updates and he got Ian W to iron out a few problems so I think will use this one.

I'm not talking about it replacing Fansfocus. Just being there just in case.

Thanks to the owner. It has/still will come in handy sometime I'm sure.

I think it is always good to have an alternative just in case but with free hosting sites, if they do not get used they get closed. I should know as I have set up five or six in the last few years and after initial enthusiasm and use everyone drifts back to fansfocus and it is gone!

The best solution, in my opinion, would be if someone has some personal paid for web space, preferably with a spare (or usable) database and php functionality. That way a forum can be set up there for emergencies and as it is on paid for space it will not disappear if it is not used.

I did have problems on Saturday. This board is better now, but the signal wasn't strong at Canvey and some of my posts disappeared. This forum still has more data content, therefore taking longer to upload. When the signal is patchy you get timed out, and annoyingly you don't always know unless you check back to see if your post is there.

 

So this coming Saturday I was intending to use the iBlue/Matchday Live forum for updates, and if it works ok use that one until further notice.

 

Nothing wrong with having a spare anyway. FansFocus (even since the upgrade) has a tendency to go down for 'maintenance' at 3pm on a Saturday. That won't be IanW's fault: probably the geeks in America who host the thing.

 

Just my personal opinion, but definitely keep the other one live, or, as Steve suggests, get our own spare. Does the club not have server space?
