reserves v Herne bay

Not the best football i have seen from the ressies, but the result is what counted.

Herne bay had lost only one of their 6 games prior to Saturdays match. On paper it looked to be a tough one for the Margate lads and it was. Herne Bay are a big physical team, They work hard, they made their physical advantages, height etc work well for them.

Our first goal was a own goal, Paul Axon got the ball on the left, took it to the bye line, brought it to the edge of the box before putting a low pass across the goal 2 meters out, the Bay defender tried to clear but, put the ball into his own net.

For the 2nd, it was a Paul Axon tap( there would have been no argument if off side had been given) in from a similar position.

At the begining of the 2nd half Herne Bay threw every thing they had at the Gate Lads, getting one back but, to no avail

The third, I did not see as I was fulfilling one of the duties I share with Alan Bonner in running the ground.

The 3rd goal was a penalty, taken by Gonzalez-Bello.

Yesterday saw something we have been lacking over the previous games this season, Luck being on our side.

Speaking to Phil Fennel last night, we agreed that the way the Gate played,(Chris Lewis for one refused to be knocked off the ball) the team had taken that step up from Lads to Men.

A well done also goes to Phil Fennel and Steve Winch on their teams maiden league win this season.

PS Give you a write up on tonight's game against Erith and belvidere held at Thamesmeads Bayliss ave.

Great result. I'm glad to hear the reserves won, and the manner of the win against what seems to be a strong Herne Bay side is doubly pleasing. Thanks for an excellent report blueblood and I cant wait to hear what happens tonight.

Gavin wright, Albrect, Argyrides, Alti, Lewis, Axon, Langiano, Lombardo, Gonzlez-bello, Hemmings, McCarthy. Subs, Brown,Gibson, Morrell,2 others who's names slip past me at the moment.

M-O-M, to many to chose from. I'll give it to Gav for not getting sent off.

Jason McAree was there but, literally only arrived back from a wedding in spain 1/2 hr before kick off. This I feel is a good pointer to the team spirit

PS, this is just a list not in positional order.

I thought Tom was travelling to Canvey with the Firsts.
