Good game. Town looked shaky at first and GWR deserved their lead when that fat b4stard Trenkel produced a great assist for thier first goal. We then got back into it and ended the half on top. Second half was great. 3-1 up after aroudn 20 mins then we just got too complacent, sat back and when GWR scored you just knew they wouldget an equaliser. Mind you, Fabio nearly won it for us with a cracking shot at the death. I have to say that on balance GWR probably just about deserved a win, particularly as our second and ghird goals did have a touch of good fortune about them but a good point that keeps us towwards the top. final mention for the GWR keeper! What a pillock. he let some of our more vocal supporters get to him. Don't think Louis Green would have let that happen!!!

Arrived at 15:30 after the son got a call out at work this morning, great fish & chips at Baileys on the front before arriving at the ground when the guy on the gate let us in for £3:50 each......top man & thankyou GWR nice touch.

Arrived behind the goal in time to hear the keeper whinging to a couple of our supporters that made him fair game for the 2nd half!

Stuart Blackburne worked his socks off up front & never stops running, scored a corker, chased down the ball for his second, Rudi hit a good free kick, all of which warranted the huge abuse & banter fired at their keeper!

Rob Blackburne pulled off a great save in the 2nd half when it looked a certain goal.

He would do well to have a serious look at Louis Green, a Town favourite & very well respected keeper who is at GWR, on how to banter & manage the opposition fans.

As Happy said once GWR scored their 2nd you felt they would get the equaliser.

Still look lightweight in places over 90 mins, would love to of seen Ellis Remy up front with Rob & think we need a bit more depth as the subs that come on for the regular starters are falling short.

However the team look settled & are gelling nicely, one defeat in 8 league games is very positive.

Technical problesm have been affecting the website so for those of you who couldn't make it....

Great Wakering Rovers (1) 3 Webb 13, Wild OG 72, Trenkel 76.

Enfield Town (0) 3 S. Blackburne 54, 62, Hall 59

Attendance

A thoroughly enthralling match was played out a Burroughs Park as Great Wakering Rovers dominated the early stages with their visitors fortunate to reach the break only one goal adrift. The second half was all change as Enfield Town took a 3 – 1 lead, but Rovers fought back to earn a draw.

A good start for Rovers paid dividends when Dan Trenkel played the ball to Jimmy Webb who fired home. Rob Blackburne got a hand to it but was unable to prevent it finding the back of the net. Chances for Enfield fell to Stuart Blackburne and Matt Thomson, but when Rovers flooded forward from a Town corner, Dave Blower had to be at his best to snuff out the threat. Webb came close firing over, but the visitors finally started to settle, and a shot from Rudi Hall came close and Blackburne threatened charging down a clearance from Keeper Richard McKinney.

Enfield survived a strong start to the second half from Rovers. Blackburne denying Neil Richmond with a great save. The equaliser came from a layback to Stuart Blackburne which he drove past McKinney from the edge of the box. Hall put the visitors ahead when a free kick retaken for encroachment went through McKinney’s hands. Things looked bleak for Rovers minutes later when Blackburne chased down a back pass to McKinney, blocking his clearance and reacting first to put the ball into the empty net.

Rovers struck back when a Trenkel cross was headed into his own net by Chris Wild. Trenkel sealed a storming performance when he popped up at the back post to head home the equaliser Both sides pushed for a winner as the game reached its climax. Richmond had the better chances for Rovers, and Fabio Valenti came close to nicking it in injury time, his shot going over the bar. But in the end a draw was just about right.

Great Wakering Rovers: Richard McKinney, Josh Hull (Dan Williams 69), Danny Pitts, Steven Heffer, Matt Toms, Ty Benjamin, Jimmy Webb, Dan Trenkel, Ben Hudson (Michael Fox 86), Neil Richmond, Grant Khory-Davinson.

Subs Not Used: Adam Holmes, Billy Johnson, Louis Godwin-Green.

Booked: Khory-Davinson, Heffer.

I dont think too much has to be done up front. Stuart is clearly the best striker town have had since their inception. Lawrence needs space and time but does a lot of work and I dont think that Remy would add much as a replacement.

It is the midfield and back line that there are weaknesses.

We lack pace in both areas, particularly at the back. I thought that Allen playing as sweeper with Wild worked at the beginning of the season but I understand that Allen had a falling out with Rudi and may have left the club. That is unfortunate as he always worked hard for the club. We need someone to replace him and take on that sweeper role. Push the opposing front players out wide until support arrives. Our defenders commit themselves too quickly and get beaten too often. They haven't the pace, stamina or confidence to stick with the striker and not give him space. Look at the number of times that GWR got to the bye line and compare that with us!

Our approach play can be painfully slow and this restricts the space that the forwards have.

Steph Who's Lawrence?

Totally agree with your view on Stuart.

I've seen Wallace play a number of games up front with Stuart & for me the jury is still out, he always seems off the pace & labours every pass, but with time I hope he steps up to the mark.

I just think Remy's height, pace & control (for a big fella) would suit Stuart, I know he went AWOL in a few games last season but we would have been in trouble without him.

Sorry meant Wallace/

At my age it takes time to get used to new faces. That is probably why I want Allen back in the team.

I think Wallace is a good player, but he drifts in and out of games. Plays one well and then, as yesterday, adds nothing.

I believe that Remy would provide Stuart with even more goal scoring chances. Remy knocking balls on for Stuarts pace has to be a winner.

I agree Stuart is the best forward we have ever had. His work rate is fantastic.

And, what a waste of talent having Fabio stuck out on the left where he is hardly in the game.

The sharp eyed among you will note that we only had four subs.

Rumour has it that AJ was arrested on the way to the game for non-payment of a fine. I asked Les whether a collection should be arranged but he was not amused.

Steph. Surely you don't believe in rumours at a club where everything is out in the open.

I heard a rumour that people who give their opinions on here are 'know it alls'! Or did I read it somewhere?

Agreed - problem is that we need to play 4-4-2 against sides with wingers, and GWR had a good one in Jimmy Webb yesterday. As the squad has no recognised wide players Fabio does a reasonable job covering the left flank. This also gives us the bonus of his excellent crossing ability.

Personally I would favour a 4-3-3 with Fabio as the third striker just behing Blackburne and Wallace; however, we used this formation at Walton and got murdered on the flanks, so we have to adapt according to circumstances.

On a different subject, does anyone know where Paul Marks is at the moment?

Agree that Stuart is the best striker to wear the blue and white for many years.Wallace is a good target man who holds the ball up well but doesn't score enough goals and he does tend to hold onto the ball for too long rather than looking for the simply pass.

Don't think central midfield worked at all yesterday. Not sure what happened to Jonesy yesterday, but a pairing of Rudi and Jonesy would have proved much more effective.(although i do understand that is taking a risk of finishing the game with less than the full compliment of players).

We lack width and pace.Only the fact the Stuart works his socks off up top, disgusies that fact.I agree that we miss the pace of Allen at the back. The makeshift left-backs look just that.If Bastian can't get a game now the first choice left back is injured, then he's got no chance of getting back in.

The substitutions didn't help us yesterday. Also,i think we had too many jouneymen/run of the mill players on the pitch generally.I counted 5 in the second half who certainly gave us no more (and probably less) than the players they have replaced from last year..Its not all negatives though, the management have brought in just as many quality players, and if we can just strenghen in a few areas we could well go the distance and make the play-off places.

Those replaced players presumably being Remy, McKie, McKoy, Edgar and who else?
