slough game today

Thoroughly enjoyable FA Cup tie in a very strange game. I thought opening 25 minutes we were the better side, and were it not for some fortunate defending (ie shots blocked without defenders knowing) then we could have been a goal to the good.

They then score a goal from nothing, and that goal is soon doubled. They then go on to control the remainder of the half.

Second-half we start quite brightly again until they add a third. It's then "Olay" football from Tooting as we look like we resembled a Slough side with no backbone from the last 2 seasons.

...But that was not to be the case. Bowden-Hasse pulls a goal back and Elliott makes it a frantic finish in which we should have had a penalty IMO when Simon Martin was fouled in the area. Would have been soft, but a defo penalty. Excellent stuff the last 20 minutes which had Tooting panicing.

Time to concentrate on the league and FA Trophy now, but very worrying with the amount of players missing through injury now. Might be time for Mr Bateman to get a few additional bodies in.

Aaagghhh. The players will be kicking themselves after today. Not necesarily for losing but for putting themselves in the position of being 3-0 down in the first place. Defensively (and I don't mean just the defence) we were shocking. The first and third goals we might as well have scored for them. Even at 2-0 we stood a chance but gave them the softest of third goals which was the killer.

Not sure what happened to change things. Perhaps it was just a bit of belief and throwing caution to the wind. In the end we gave ourselves too much to do. That said, we should have had a penalty. I'm convinced the referee would have given that had it not been at such a critcial point in the game.

Good fun for the last 20 minutes and a fantastic ground which made it better. Anyone know what was wrong with their number 6 at the end? Celebrated like he'd won the trophy! Maybe he's not used to playing in front of away fans!

A shame to lose, but was always going to be a tall order.

They spotted the weakness in defence, why Harper was playing right back I don't think anyone knows, and exploited it 3 times. Brilliant fight back though and a shame they couldn't get a 3rd.

Time to concentrate on the league.

Hopefully today won't have taken too much out of the squad in time for Tuesday and additionally that Edgeworth's injury isn't as bad as it looked. We are very short in centre midfield in terms of numbers and unless Jordan is available I don't see any adequate cover.

A win today and the pay cheque would have been a bonus, but the players and management need to make sure today doesn't spill over into the next 2 league games and they can return to winning ways.

Fair result considering some of our defending was of the quality of the last few seasons.

It is now obvious why Harper has not been picked this year and is only in now due to injuries.

The mid-field was lacking again due to the attacking mix of players and this put further presure on the weakened defence.

We are fine going forwards, but as soon we lose the ball then the oposition walk through the middle of the field and we are under pressure - need for a Wilko or Pritchard type of player to secure the middle of the pitch and kill off attacks.

Bateman needs to look at pluggung the gaps in mid-field and defence with the cash that has been generated and we will then have a solid team again.

Intresting to see Mo and Sam come on and both made valuable contributons.

Disapointed to be out of the cup, but can see that this year there will be more ups than downs.

Such a shame the middle part of the game was so dissapointing.

Tooting may have been a league higher and in 3rd place but we started and finished so well and if we did go one up I feel it would have been so different. As for the penalty claim I was in front of it, personally thought the ref got it right. Yes they've been given many times before, but... well it didn't get me jumping.

One thning i liked imo when Edgewoth went off I thought we'd be light in midfied, but the lads battled and pushed on. I heard things saying that we lacked defence towards the end but I'd rather end up losing 4-2 fighting than going down with a whimper like I thought we were going to do at 3-0.

Well done lads, you gave it a fair crack, now to Hitchin!

This was a good FA cup game ...with Slough really giving us a great storming finish and nearly pulled off the fight back

of the season...well done lads...

yes we gifted them the first goal too..considering we were the best team out there for 25mins...conceeded a second

sucker punch and if we had last years team I am sure we would have been thumped out of sight.

therefore I was happy at the final whistle we actually gave Tooting and Mitcham the scare of their lives !! they were the ones that wanted the game to end NOT SLOUGH !

up the rebels...you done us proud today !

Fair result in the end, I'm not sure we deserved any more from the game. The beginning and the end of the game were great times for us, shame about the bits in the middle really. 3 mistakes, 3 goals at the back though, a shame we couldn't get something from our early pressure. The difference in league was obvious in the end though.

The boys did us proud in the end but at times the play was poor. Let's make sure this doesn't drop into the league games.

Looking forward to Tuesday to see how today affects the team.

First the positive, well done to the team for sticking at it and nearly pulling off the biggest comeback since Lazarus.

I can understand why Bateman paired NBH with Sweeney, to try and nullify Tootings two quick forwards but unfortunately for Dean Harper it back-fired because all 3 goals came from balls played into our right back position where mistakes were made and the goals were gifted to Tooting.

Another strange decision was that Danny Murphy was clearly not 100% fit and he was still preferred to Ryan Fenton? If I was Fenton I would be questioning that decision.

Does anyone know why Craig O'Connor was subbed at half-time?

Wealdstone over Lewes isn't a surprise. Lewes haven't won a game in Conference South so far whilst Wealdstone are 2nd in the Ryman Premier.

Should note as well that that's not the Aylesbury United in our league, it's the Aylesbury playing in the Spartan South Midland League.
