Colliers Wood United won the first ever sanctioned Friday night CCL Premier League match 1-0 at Wibbandune.

This was a close, yet entertaining, derby game which was heading towards a goalless draw before Wood skipper, Ryan Hughes, met a fine cross from Cornell McCoy to grab the 3 points in the third minute of second half stoppage time.

Wood keeper, Nick Peters, performed wonders to deny Chris Wye with a double save at his feet as the visitors looked to get on top midway through the 2nd half and the game, played on the best surface since at Wibbandune for quite a while, and well marshalled by the match officials, proved to be a credit to the league's forward thinking.

Generally speaking, the experiment of Friday night football proved to be a major success as a crowd of 142 attended the game, about four times the average gate at Wibbandune in recent years, and more than double the normal gate for this local derby.

Food and bar sales were described as excellent despite a day when rain fell incessantly from about 3pm.

Colliers Wood United FC would like to thank everyone for making the evening such a success.

Footnote - Raynes Park Vale team manager, Mark Williams, announced his resignation following the match.

(Mark asked me to inform you all).

The manager was going to quit two weeks ago but decided to stay to help out a bit more. The chairman quit in September after too many disputes with the committee. The clubs loss, and they will face a relegation battle now as some of the players played their last game last night too.
