Hertford Chairman resigns???

Recommended Posts

I was told last night the Hertford Chairman resigned last night , does anyone know if there is any truth in this?

Yes he has resigned (again).

East Herts Herald article

Hands off the players, Christian! Judging by Mick's comments in the article, he's looking to become involved with a higher level club, who don't have to make the near impossible jump to the pyramid proper by finishing as champs of a Step 5 league. Form an orderly queue here, Step 3/4 clubs looking for an investor!

I have always found it surpising and unfair that there is only a maximum of only one promotion spot from each step 5 league. Most other steps in the pyramid down to step 7 that I know of allow at least two potential promotions per season (depending on grading etc).

It is indeed unfair - the Ryman/Southern Exclusive Club only permit a small relegation trapdoor for their member clubs! It's not even one promotion spot from each Step 5 League! it's 12 from 14 leagues, to make a nice even number to fit 6 Step 4 leagues. In theory, an investor could sink a lot of money into "buying" a promotion, and then, even when his team won the league, they might not actually get promoted!

Of course, against increasing the number of promotion opportunities is the ground grading issue - there is no doubt that clubs have struggled to meet the Step 4 grading requirements and no doubt that the NLS grading people have often stretched a point to let some clubs up. But if a sensible approach to grading was taken, there sholud be no reason why playoffs couldn't be extended to Step 5 and a second club given the opportunity to go up.

As a former official of one of the 16 Ryman clubs cast adrift like old socks, I am particularly bitter about the current situation! Instead of having a 2/16 change of going back up, it's now 1/22 and then 12/14 !
